Yes its New Year in Thailand.
It's a 3 day Festival in Thailand, which involves lots of water. Basically when the sun pops up, its just water fights! Everyone is involved, old young, whatever... its great fun.
People ride around on the back of Pick Up Trucks with Buckets of water and throw it at you, and you reciprocate by throwing water back at them. Driving along on your motorbike with a Super Soaker in hand passenger on the back with one as well, spraying everyone/thing that comes your way can be fun. People on the side of the roads doing the same as you drive past.
It is indeed imense fun, until someone puts ICE in their bucket of water, and its not nice at all! So me being a somewhat genius (in my mind) I decided to buy myself a small gun and fill it with Fish Sauce. This stuff stinks to high heaven. So anyone who got me with ice cold water, got a spraying of fish. Mmmmmmm
Oh well, its good fun, and I do recommend it.
The bad thing is, driving your motorbike and getting a bucket of water in the face = many bad things happen. On Friday which was the first day of Songran around 200 people died. This is the main problem....
They have no sense of morality out here. They see you, they throw water at you. So you then can't see and you crash. Overloaded Pickup trucks, people driving dangerously to avoid being covered in water. The problem is not when you get a water gun sprayed at you, but a bucket of water.
