Targets achieved and those yet to be achieved...
Hi all,
OK - so we've now achieved 2 of the 5 targets - although one target might not ever be totally achieved - which is to move up one more place in the BOINC World rankings...!
Of the other 4, two have now been achieved, namely:
We are now the UK ranked #1 Team for both Rosetta and SIMAP.
To all the respective crunchers who have helped us to achieve these rankings, I offer my sincere thanks for your contribution - long may it continue...
HOWEVER
We still have the other 2 targets still in our sights and we need YOUR help to achieve these. They are:
To become World ranked #1 team on SAP
To become UK ranked #1 Team on SETI
I will leave it to YOUR best judgement as to how to help the Team to achieve these two targets.
Once these are achieved, I think we need to start paying some close attention to some of the other projects where we can use our combined "muscle" to either become UK ranked #1 Team or where our World ranking position is slipping down a bit....there's no rest here y'know...
Keep on crunching.
regards,
Tim

The SAP target won't happen unless some other people come along to help crunch, I think most people here are coming to the end of there current crunching of SAP WU's
I am quite happy to stay at the position we are in now, as I have said previously we have made it to Number 1 in the UK and helped the science massively that's all that counts for me.
Time to concentrate on other projects to get us a better UK ranking I think, then from there we can move on

By now we know that Synergy will let us pass in SAP
Our effort http://boincstats.com/stats/boinc_team_ ... =bo&id=214 21%
Their effort http://boincstats.com/stats/boinc_team_ ... r=bo&id=49 5.7%
and thats on a day when we lost by about 5000 credits.
But it's like a supermarket buy one get one free offer, in that without our effort they would be crunching 3,500 to 5000 credits a day. So for every credit we do for SAP they crunch another credit, in effect doubling the work we do for SAP.
Lookers effort in Seti http://boincstats.com/stats/boinc_team_ ... r=bo&id=42.
They have no real reserves to defend their position, but others in our team may be like me and think that Seti is a waste of time.

It could all be a waste of time but its the Father of BOINC and the jewel in the crown of projects many people initially sign up with SETI just because they like the idea and then branch out to other projects, so moving on hope will hopefully help the causeUBT - JohnR wrote:but others in our team may be like me and think that Seti is a waste of time.

Hi John,UBT - JohnR wrote:For some hours now Boincstats have shown us ahead of Portugal@home.

Fact is we ARE already ahead of Portugal@home 8) - as our stats (on Darren's very good catching up stats page), doesn't show some of the other projects that are now starting to export their XML's to the stats sites.
As such, we've already crunched a further 28,000+ credits, (on projects such as Riesel Sieve, Spinhenge, Docking, Neuron, NanoHive, etc.) that we're not counting towards our target.
Once Darren can update his stats, it'll be just that bit more accurate....!
And then we can see how well we're doing against some of these other "whippersnappers".

Well, all very good and as interesting as this is, it doesn't answer my two main questions. If we advance in ranks in projects, will we:
1 - Be given lollipops?
and 2 - If not lollipops, then a sticker of one of the Seven Dwarves, like I got at the dentist when I was just a nipper?
I think we should be told!!!!

Hi all,
Our team "coder" Darren has been hard at work again and we're now pleased to announce the following stats link:
http://www.ukboincteam.org.uk/stats/ubt ... -page.html
This shows our UK and World ranking position by project and the number of members we have on each project, as well as our current RAC.
Next to this is shown the stats for both the UK and World teams who are one place ahead of us in the respective rankings. (If no UK team is shown, then we're already #1 !! 8)
And just to make it really simple, if the "other" team name is shown in RED, then we do need extra help to pass them, as our current RAC is less than their's and hence we're not going to be able to overtake them without extra effort.
If it's GREEN, then our RAC exceeds their's and we will most likely overtake them - and as a guide, a "Catch About" date is shown, when we expect to pass them.....
Hopefully, it will allow us to keep a check on who we are catching up with and how much effort we need to make sure we do pass them.
regards
Tim

Great stuff Tim!
Two things I'd like to mention:
1 - YAY! About to pip the post so to speak on SETI. We rock.
2 - Wouldn't it be useful to also show where the team below us is positioned? We're #1 on a number of projects, but if a team below us has pulled out the stops to crunch to #1, it would perhaps be nice to see that on the page as a warning, maybe? Or something of that ilk, such as a warning of when we will lose the spot to the team below us.
Thoughts?

You're quite right - and it's something I had already given thought to - after all, while it's great to see who we should be catching, it'as just as good to know that we won't get caught ourselves....
But I wanted to give Darren a rest for a few days before imposing myself again on him.
But knowing him, he's probably already done it :D :D

I didn't even that know Darren had a cold  , so it's even more blooming amazing that the poor man could even string some code together and make it work....UBT-Shaman wrote:It's bloomin' good work, cold or no cold, all the same.
The issue with the stats websites is that they try to encapsulate and then display lots of data in a human friendly way. And there are so many ways of doing it, that obviously not everyone will be pleased with the results or the limitations. That's not to knock the stats sites - most of whom do it for love rather than for any financial reasons.UBT-Shaman wrote:I found it really helpful compared to the other stats pages which I really struggle to decipher.

And while tables of data are sort of useful, for the teams, some better stuff really is required.
And as none of the sites could produce anything specific for us, so I had the idea, David provided some input and Darren did the implementation...

Tim

He's only gone and dunnit, hasn't he!
You've caused a sick man to get out of his warm bed, his nose streaming with unmentionables, code yet more stuff and then update the pages on the web, all within minutes of your OP.....
I think you owe him some Lemsip.....

Could I make a suggestion, rather than having UBT credits/details on its own over on the left, would it not look better and be easier to read if it were with the other records.
Using Seti as an example, something like this
UK Lookers 44 1 339 24,634 15,280,432 120,752 29 Oct 06
INT World Wide S.E.T.I. 45 - 546 29,661 15,178,155 18,475 21 Oct 06
-- UK BOINC Team 46 2 509 34,774 15,159,680
UK The Scottish Boinc Team 67 3 342 18,261 9,750,679 5,409,001

Hi all,
Was waiting for comments concerning the stats pages, and thought someone might come up with a tweaked idea for the layout. :D
For my preference, I'd prefer 2 internal tables per project, which would shift the ranking column to the left, and add an extra row to the overall height (and maybe a horizontal rule) to the current look:
UK 1 Lookers 339 24,634 15,280,432 120,752 29 Oct 06
UK 2 UK BOINC Team 509 34,774 15,159,680
UK 3 The Scottish Boinc Team 342 18,261 9,750,679 5,409,001
INT 45 World Wide S.E.T.I. 546 29,661 15,178,155 18,475 21 Oct 06
INT 46 UK BOINC Team 509 34,774 15,159,680

Its because they don't do regular stats so its going to have to be worked on using the XML files provided.UBT - Mikeejones wrote:Had to find something wrong!:D
