Time for a Crunch?
Just realised that it's a long tiime since we had a team crunchathon. Been trying to think of ways to stage one that will include all members, not just high crunchers.
So...
How about a CPU only crunch. Not sure what projects but SIMAP ( http://boincsimap.org/boincsimap/ ) and eOn ( http://eon.ices.utexas.edu/eon2/ ) are 2 that could do with a push - any other suggestions?
To make it a bit more inclusive I thought about a league system. Something along the lines of...
Premiership league for those in the team Top 100
Championship for those between 101 and 1,000
Rymans/Unibond/League One for those 1.001 and lower.
Overall winner would be the member who climbed the most positions?
I'm not going to mess about listing everyone so there would have to be a registration system - late entries would be permitted as I can use BOINCStats to pick their starting place. The only other stipulation would be that they're a member of the forum (and team obviously!)
A few tweaks required, I'm sure!
So I want lots of opinions and suggestions please!

It has been ages since we last had a proper team crunchathon, and as they are a great way of bringing the team together for a common purpose, this definitely sounds good to me. :DUBT - Mikee wrote:Just realised that it's a long tiime since we had a team crunchathon. As to choice of project, well I have no problem with signing up for either SIMAP or eOn, or which ever project the majority of people want to crunch.UBT - Mikee wrote:Not sure what projects but SIMAP ( http://boincsimap.org/boincsimap/ ) and eOn ( http://eon.ices.utexas.edu/eon2/ ) are 2 that could do with a push
The league system sounds interesting, although I'm not sure that, for a CPU based crunch, it would be fair to divide the team into different leagues depending on their overall place in the team stats (but then I would say that, lol). As for the winner being the member who climbed the most positions, well do you mean the most positions within the team Mikee, or the most positions across the project as a whole?UBT - Mikee wrote:To make it a bit more inclusive I thought about a league system. Oh, and I think that we ought to consider including non forum members in the league, because I'm sure that there are team members out there who read the forum but choose never to post, and encouraging as many members to participate as possible would only be a good thing.
I agree with the CPU only idea, but think the League should start at zero for everyone in the team who wishes to take part.
It would have to be a month long crunch to make the numbers worthwhile. And while including people who don't post on the forum is a laudable idea, if they don't look at the forums then how are they going to know about the crunch? Same old question I know, but a valid one all the same.
Why not crunch three projects at once? If we choose projects with differing credit and differing times it would make the crunch a lot more tactical (ie projects taking more time pay more credits and vica versa)
My twopennarth! :D

OK then - no registrations.
I'd like to add PrimaBoinca ( http://www.primaboinca.com/ ) to the list as we're trailing there as well.
As to length of the crunch, I think we may need to ease ourselves into it again as it's such a long time since the last proper one. We did used to do 48 hour ones, 7 day ones and I think we did a month long one once but everyone got bored! A week one may be a good compromise to start. Doing more than one project at a time may get a bit messy!
Still need some more suggestions for projects to do unless evereyone is happy with the 3 suggested so far.
Deadline for ideas/suggestions is Sunday evening, then I'll open a poll for votes.

Seems like a good candidate. Not on Johns stats. We're running 3rd in the UK.UBT - mickyb69 wrote: How about AndrONIC ? Great credits and a newish project ....

Hi MikeUBT - Mikee wrote:Doesn't look like anyone is intereted in running one so I might have a pop again after the PrimeGrid challange.
Hope all is well with you.
I've just seen this thread and think it would be a splendid idea to have another crunchathon.....it seems like ages ago that we did one, so why not....?
Given the plethora of new projects, there's lots to choose from and I'm in no position to guess which one is the most suitable candidate....
Perhaps we can set something up in time for the 1st November ? We've got 2 weeks or so to organise something....
Whaddya think ?

Tim
Hmmm, the answer to this lies quite literally in the tumble weed of replies! Come on people, what a way to welcome our Founder back. My answer is Yes, I do want a Team Crunch! Now to decide what to crunch and when?
On a side note, I know a lot of teams have a monthly crunch where they concentrate on one project for that month. Do you all think it would be a good idea to introduce this to UBT? It can be a very rigid format or a very flexible one, that is up to the team as a whole, but please take some time out to give the idea some thought, thanks :D

Quite possibly, although my comment was meant to be a little tongue in cheek :DUBT-mark3346 wrote:melter65 wrote:Hmmm, the answer to this lies quite literally in the tumble weed of replies!
With 9 Sticky/Announcements above it and regular new postings on the stickies it might in part be down to the topic getting overlooked,

While I quite like the idea of a month long crunch, I think that perhaps it might be better to kick things off with something a little shorter, at least until we all got back into the swing of things again.melter65 wrote:On a side note, I know a lot of teams have a monthly crunch where they concentrate on one project for that month. As for choice of project, well I'm easy, but how about a little Ibercivis.

Hi guys - back for a quick visit!
Reckon, in this section, everything can be 'unstickied' except stats. The rest are unimportant or regularly update to be at the top anyway.
I'm not around as much now for various reasons so can't donate much time to organizing crunches anymore.
So what we need, in the first instance, is someone to bite the bullet and volunteer to organize it. Doesn't have to be one person, but I think one person would be better as they would get a consistent way of doing things.
So...
Who's gonna shout the loudest and volunteer!

Well, I've just started on the WCG Challenge, in order to get me some credits into the system so they might be credited as the Challenge starts....
And I'll keep running WCG maybe until the end of the month...and then we'll see if any further interest exists in a Crunch for December.....though if memory serves me correctly, WCG usually does a few Challenges in the run up to Xmas....
Have to see how it goes, I guess....
