It may be worth remembering that Seti uses a wingman to check the results.

This leads to a delay in getting credits for any work done (I'm still waiting for one of my wingmen to complete a WU I returned at the start of August!)

It might be worth starting crunching a few days early to be able to have results being validated by the time the guantlet starts.

I'm off on hols for the next week, so I won't be around for the first day or two of the challenge... I've a machine with close to 24/7 uptime though so if I just set it going before I leave on SETI and nothing else, it'll just... work?

Cannot do that because......
Credit is only received for those wu's that are given out at the start of the gauntlet. Otherwise ppl would be stock piling wu's

That's not what the Seti@Nl page says, it just mentions taking the stats from when the gauntlet starts until it finishes. It specifically states that cheating is possible with nearly completed WUs stockpiled.

Not that I was proposing that, just that the flow of credits for Seti are not instant and will be delayed if you don't start early.

Anyway, if you crunched just for the gauntlet and your wingman didn't return them in time you'd get nothing!

I thought I'd read that, too, although I'd at first assumed that the length of the gauntlet challenge was to allow for WUs to be crunched and the wingman to do a good number as well.

Does seem to make the challenge less of a challenge if you can manipulate it in this way.

Welcome to the Team, Dan!

The 'scoring' starts from the first set of stats released from Seti after the Gauntlet starts, so you can start crunching Seti before the 25th Sept and leave it running and you'll not miss a day of the challenge!

Some were asking (via MSN) which Seti wu's were valid for the Gauntlet. I've just received the answer from the Seti@Nl forum that ALL Seti wu's are valid! So get those GPU cards working overtime, team!

As I said before, the Gauntlet is a marathon. If you can keep crunching at a steady rate and those around you drop off, go to another project or turn a machine off, then you will rise up the rankings!

Hi Dan, it's 'Position Change' in days, the number of days it's going to take you to catch the person ahead of you. If you have no entry, it means you're being caught up!

Just for fun I normalized today's stats by # active team members.

The position stats explained are:

Position [True Position / Difference]

A positive difference is good, meaning the team is underperforming in the true ranks because of their lack of members. A negative difference means the converse, ie they are earning less credits per individual than some of those teams below them, but have their position due to their greater numbers.

Hi Dan, similar messages but I started getting new WUs late yesterday afternoon.

Sadly, the Seti servers are always down on Tuesday mornings for maintenance and then spend the rest of the day (or days sometimes!) trying to catch up again. If you don't have any WU by now then you probably won't get any more before tomorrow

Just a word about the Tuesday outage. I've just upped my cache to 5 days and now have around 80 wu's. Hopefully this will cover the outage and any unforeseen downtime afterwards.

I have a GTX295 gpu which is suspect - might work, might not. Do I try to get it to work, in a machine with a marginal psu, and make a last minute dash for glory .... or leave well alone until I have more time to sort it out???
