This section is where you can post topics related to Challenges from other websites, such as Formula-BOINC, SETI-Germany and BOINCstats, as well as project challenges such as from WCG, PrimeGrid et al.
As a Team, we really want to engage as many team members with these challenges, as this gives us a great way of attracting more members to our Team...plus we get to show our strengths as a Team by (hopefully) doing well in each one.
Just so as i know seeing as its my first challenge type thing......
Only W/U downloaded after 1800 UTC / 1900 BST count so i need to have none of those queued up before hand and all 4 cores ready to start?
Is it worth doing a few of those w/u a day before so all other stuff that needs to download is already on my client? So i need only clog up the system for w/u not the aux files as well

Yes you are quite correct....only wu's downloaded after 1900bst will count towards the challenge total..
So run down any work you are doing before this time..
Make sure you only d/l PSP Sieve....change in your accounts / primegrid prefs page to ONLY PSP SIEVE....
And good luck..
I'm running 4 prime grid w/u and 2 gpugrid w/u at the same time atm but that slows the prime grid units down as as it takes 40% of one of the cores to feed them i believe.
I'm going to stop the gpu just for the 48 hours of the challenge
And a Q9650 comes tomorrow to replace my Q6600.
can't wait for my compo money !!! my credits will jump a bit then
Recommendation: The PSP (Sieve) application requires a one time download of a 10MB sieve file. Please consider running a few PSP WU's before the Challenge begins so your client will already have the sieve file. This way, bandwidth can be used to deliver WU's instead of the sieve file. Thank you!
Bob, I just ran a few PSP Sieve WUs to check the system.
They are supposed to be minimum quorum 1, initial replication 1, yet the first two to complete are both "pending"?
UBT - Rick Horn wrote:Ooh, these PSP Sieves are rather tasty!
28.56 credits per WU which take less that 50 minutes to process.
Think I shall be doing these on a permanent basis. Should keep Bob happy too.

We were chatting about PG credits last night on MSN with Timby / Melter / Ben / bobuk.....Timby was saying and bashing his calculator that atm PG wu's give better credit than ABC...
So come on peeps join PrimeGrid and reap the benifits of good credit.
Heartbroken that a mobo for my old q6600 never made it on time stuck with only 6 cores and 1 of them is an athlon xp 2800 although its been fried into thinking its a barton 3200
Its a bit sad the q6600 is missing or i'd have all my previous cpu's from the dark ages running right up to present. Oh well next time

Looks like im going to stick with bob and melters
Come and stand with us, with your chin on the floor, as we watch lordnikon's 20 cores kick botty!! :D :D
unfortunately 4 of them have dropped out and i won't be back at work to get them back up in time for the rest of the challenge so we'll have to do with 16... thought i might have a chance getting some points for the individual standings but alas i'm slowly dropping positions, not gaining no matter.... UBT is in the points and should defo jump up a few in teh standings......go us!
Hehe i'm running the q6600 on the cheapest little asus mobo i could find in town yesterday. If i up the FSB by 1 mhz it won't post its that basic but its still doing 4 every 28 minutes i think.
can't believe how well i've kept up.....thought i was going to plummit !!
nice to see UBT haven't dropped any positions over night.... looks like we've carved ourselves a nice little niche in the standings + it don't look like anyone will take us - bring on teh points.
must say for my first challenge it was very exciting...
next one will be even better!
i had plans for 20 cores:
8 x Xeon 2.5GHz (E5420)
8 x Xeon 2.33GHz (E5345)
4 x Xeon 3.0GHz (5160) - for a x64 windows box - this one burns hard - its been keeping up with some of the linux platforms in sieves!
but unfortunately i had to spend most of the time running on only 16 (had about 6-7 hours with all 20 ) as the 3GHz box got raided for parts almost right away lol.... so next time even better... plus there might be another 16 cores to add to the list....so bring it AAAAAOOOOOOWWWWWN!
UBT came 12th overall in the 2008 Challenges. We can beat that this year, especially with all the new, eager team members!
The PG Challenge Series is the best organised set of team/individual crunches in Boincdom (is that a proper word?) Shame not to continue our good start, Mikee!
yeah im in mate but the next on is gonna be a tough one PSP LLR so guys with farms are gonna do well ... but i'll be there anyway maybe with some more cores this time....
