UBT Mini City
I've been thinking about this. You can only click on one link in one city, daily. So instead of going to other cities and clicking on their links, why not have everyone in UBT just click on one of our cities links instead?
Or is it the 'socializing factor that makes peeps want to visit other cities?'
Or is it the 'socializing factor that makes peeps want to visit other cities?'

Not sure what you mean. You can 'click' any city once a day, not one 'click' total per day if that's what you're saying.melter65 wrote:I've been thinking about this. Anyway, the way I do it is...
Make a folder called 'minicity'.
In that folder have our link...
(File>new>shortcut "http://lightning.generator.free.fr/link ... -boincteam" > next "UK BOINC Team" >finish.)
Code: Select all
http://lightning.generator.free.fr/linkmyminicity.php?town=uk-boincteam
Copy and paste the link so you have 2 of them in the text.
Who do you want to go to next? Say 'LOOMST' as they visit us every day.
Edit the 2nd link end part to look like...
Code: Select all
http://lightning.generator.free.fr/linkmyminicity.php?town=LOOMST
Go to the folder and 'create new shortcut.'
Paste into the 'location', call it 'LOOMST' and save.
Now you should have...
Folder called 'minicity.'
In the folder 3 files...
hyperlink shortcut to us
hyperlink shortcut to LOOMST
'minicity.txt' file.
All you need do now for a new team is copy one of the files in the minicity.txt file, amend the end of one of the links, copy then create new shortcut as above.
Might look complicated but it's easy really!
I've got 16 in the folder at the moment. So that's 16 clicks and done. It'd help if you write at each location that we've visited. That's easy as you can double click in the 'News' section you'll get a 'drop down' with all the messages you've all ready written, just select one of them.
Ah! I thought it was one click per day, not one click per city per day!
Now I've got a folder with shortcuts to us, loomst and blasted-flats. But what is a text file and how do you make one?
EDIT: Sorted out the text file, now got my template for new shortcuts!

31st now! Up 6 since last week.
Population 5,852 - Up 1,871
Revenues 1,471,950€ - Up 473,600€
Use http://lightning.generator.free.fr/link ... -boincteam
Visiting other teams and leaving a message seems to be working. Remember to say "UK-boincteam" in the message as then people can just paste that into the search, find us straight away and paste that name into the generator like wot we do!

Just sent begging letters to all 40 of my lot!
Most seem to be running okay, though http://terrapinville.myminicity.com/xml is in a bad way!

Begging letters have helped but we're still in dire straights! We need 40 extra 'clicks' just to get back to normality and people are leaving in droves!

I assumed that was different for each pc, probably not by the looks of it oh well.......Modem off and on is a different ip each time that must be why I have posted from 100's of ips, so there we go then six clicks now (shall not bother doing that again though, don't want to bust the modem).UBT - Mikee wrote:'fraid not. I think I've worked out what part of the problem is. Our population has shot up from 6,414 to 9,451 (ranking has also increased from 37 to 27). So it looks like we've got more inhabitants with too much time on their hands until normality is restored.
I don't know why we've gained 3,000 in a few days, seemed to coincide with the 'lightning generator' going down.
So if we can just hit any links that DON'T increase population we should be okay - eventually!

A quick attempt at replicating what lightening generator does.
Seems to work but as I've already used my visit for the day I can't get it to change from transport.

When I use the generator, it give an error message likemelter65 wrote:I'm a little confused here! Why exactly is the lightening generator only giving pop? Is this happening with all cities I link to using the generator? When will it be OK to use the generator links again, or should I delete them all and start again?
Not Found : Create uk-boincteam
If you leave it for 5 seconds or so, it does load the uk-boincteam minicity but DOES NOT pass any arguments, thereby raising only the population.
No idea if/when it will be fixed
Yes, that happens with me also. So how are other city peeps giving us ind, env and trans if the generator isn't working?Temujin wrote:When I use the generator, it give an error message likemelter65 wrote:I'm a little confused here! You can do what the generator does manually with http://uk-boincteam.myminicity.com/xmlmelter65 wrote:Yes, that happens with me also. that will display an xml file that show counts for each of the systems, you choose the biggest count, lets say unemployment (ind) and then manually enter http://uk-boincteam.myminicity.com/ind and you should see a message for a new factory.

Right, I've got that. Now I've got all the strings to manually copy & paste for our city in my txt file. I know I can alter them for other cities, but it's going to be a bit fiddly to visit more than two or three cities at a time!Temujin wrote:You can do what the generator does manually with http://uk-boincteam.myminicity.com/xmlmelter65 wrote:Yes, that happens with me also. The way I did it is...
Create a shortcut, write in...
http://calm-chaos.myminicity.com/xml (copy this to a text file if you're going to change lots - you can then just copy and paste the bit that's different)
Call it 'calm' then finish.
When you click on the short cut it'll bring up the xml file.
Have a browse at what's needed and just change the "/xml" in the address bar to what is needed.
For any other teams just change the "calm-chaos" bit in your text file and paste the new short cut.
I've been comparing the /xml files this evening and as far as I can see...
Population is rising steadily, income is rising steadily. Out of the rest only pollution has changed (worse by 1). I still say there's a problem at their end!

Had a look at the XML seen this info.
I picked /ind, looked the XML again and got this.<population>9706</population>
<incomes>2256700</incomes>
<unemployment>18</unemployment>
<transport>82</transport>
<criminality>11</criminality>
<pollution>13</pollution>
<nextnuke>1</nextnuke>
<signatures>0</signatures>
<bases com="437" env="1538" ind="2504" sec="2074" tra="1569" />
Looks like the /ind worked ok, as it changed from ind="2504" to ind="2505"<population>9706</population>

Hi! Thank you to everyone who has visited calm-chaos
Came by for a sticky to see what, if anything, was written here about Yarolds... I couldn't see anything in this thread, so I may have confused some people in your city bulletin.
Yarolds is a link exchange. Someone, the username used there is Darren, registered and has the uk-boincteam link set for population. Usually 1 credit = 1 click on link... on the 14th there was 2000+ credits left. Usually when there are so many credits, a "lotto win" may be the cause. I haven't been back since so I'm not sure what the current situation is. For all I know the credits could be about to run out.
I would suggest "Darren" change the link to something besides population. Even hiding the link temporarily would give the city a chance to catch up.
Another option is for someone to register at www.miniville-site.com. It is an auto-exchange with close to 2000 cities participating. You could expect between 600-1300 clicks a day when run daily. It takes between 1-2 hours to run and the whole site is in French The exchange as standard is set to decide what the city needs and bring that, although you can manually set your percentages.
If the Yarold's population dump can be stopped or slowed, the city should come back quite quickly. If you're curious visit illu-town to see what an on-going population dump does to an abandoned city
Cheers

Right! Got this 'Yarolds' thing sorted now. Should start to see a bit more improvement!
Found this on Youtube which helped a lot!

whoa!
I've been using this for about 2 months, hence the increase in stats!
I've just got back from an unexpected week long visit to the hospital, broken arm, and started to sort things out.
If two people have the same link instant ban.
As I said, been doing it for over a while, so happy to bow out.
I'm struggling to click with left hand anyway......
Happy clicking

Hey all
I've just found a great little website, http://bjjen.no-ip.com/tmc/if someone is willing they can add the forum's city to the queue. Keep the website on and you'll help other ppl and the teams city will also be helped. In a hour I've had 18 hits on my own city.
Its 1 city/ip so it'll be good for someone without there own city

Great keep the page up and we'll get more visits I've gained loads of visits already just today
If you close the page though it'll cancel your place in the queue. I believe the page for other people to do the forum's city is http://bjjen.no-ip.com:8080/tmc/bestcho ... ncteam&q=1

Of course you can!Timby wrote:Ah good news Mikee, can I close my browser now please Sir ?
I was going to close mine, but it's not doing any harm being open, at least until tomorrow night when I'm booted out of the queue!
If anyone does close it, can you occasionally go there - just to keep things ticking over.
You do realise we are probably all working on the same thing.
So the queue total you see is from all of us running the thing and updating the queue for our city.
After all I don't think I alone have visited 1121 citys
All we got to work on now is Pollution it's at 1%, everything else is ok
I have the page running all the time on one of my pootas, so that will keep things going when a new "city" day starts

Yarolds has gone down again. However, 'Tend my minicity' is still working and I'm trying to register with 'Hydra', just waiting for an email confirmation.
We've just got into the top 20, 19 is not too far away either.

Well done those that click away!

Update...
We're now up to 17th and still climbing steadily.
Anyone who hasn't 'clicked' for a while please do so. Links at beginning of thread - any of them will do as we're not in need of anything specific at the moment.
or just Click here!
There's a new one I've registered for us at a different site. I'm just trying to get it into a decent state before I post a link.

New style of minicity to play with.
This time you can create your very own and build it yourself in your own design. Still at BETA stage, but there's a big update due soon.
In order to get credits to build your city you still require 'clicks'.
I started one myself and called it 'UK-BOINCTeam' before I realised that team members can't really influence how the city grows other than providing more 'click's' - it's up to me to decide that which means it's not really a team effort unless, for instance, it gets handed over to someone else weekly. By the time you've learnt what and where to build, when to take profit, clicking and writing to other cities it's time to hand it over. Then there's the chance someone will make a mistake.
We could form our own league I suppose. Create your own city (prefix UBT?) and see how we get on?
Anyway, this is my effort, currently running 115th out of 450ish.
http://minicity.in/index.php?city=UK-BOINCTeam
If anyone does fancy starting their own city I'll keep running 'UK-BOINCTeam' and start another individual city.
If not then please click the 'Increase Population' link daily if you can.

We've just risen to 16th on this.
New pet project is...
http://www.minicity.in/index.php?city=UK-BOINCTeam
I've managed to get us up to 72 (out of 623 cities) but it would be a great help if a few members would click the 'increase population' link - if you can do it once a day that'd be great, if not, whenever you can would still be a help.
I thank you!
