Don't worry not out yet but its not far off.
A lot of testing has been going on behind the scenes to try and remove as many of the Major bugs as is possible.
When 5.4.0 comes out it is hoped that it is the 1st release with no major flaws in there, the proxy issue will be also be sorted out.
Well done to SETI & the testers for making such things possible, I'm sure people will remember what happened when classic shut down there was nearly a new BOINC version every other day as loads of major bugs were in there, this one will hopefully be painless.

No as all you do is upgrade over the top of the existing client so all WU's and info is still safe.
The only client where you have to do a clean install is if you are running 4.x.x, can't remember the exact version of that at the moment
If you have a 5.x.x client just install a new version without removing BOINC this will just overwrite all the files needed to upgrade BOINC to the new version without affecting any work there, when the new version starts up it will detect a version change, suspend all work and perform a benchmark of the sustem after that thew work will start again.
Its quick easy & painless I update most weeks to a new development version and don't have any problems

The new BOINC client will just install itself in it's own directory, leaving the subfolders for the project intact.DJHunter wrote:When a new version does come out, do you have to do anything about optimised clients?
Of course if you have an optimised BOINC Manager, then this will be overwritten by the new Berkeley sourced BOINC Manager.
In time, an optimised v5.4 BOINC Manager may come out, but that is for later...!
As mentioned in another post on the forum, the new Einstein application will be using better optimised source code, so the need to have an independently-produced optimised Einstein application might go away.
That'll leave just SETI as the only major BOINC project that has an independently produced optimised client, which must be installed separately.
But that might change when we get to Enhanced SETI - depends if anyone wants to tackle optimising SETI Enhanced. The gains will be greater if one can be produced (as Enhanced will run for many hours). But you never know - they might just get around to providing a tweaked version ??? (esp. if they get enough donations to keep the project going

Tim
