Another wee tip for this project (I think Mikee mentioned it earlier)...
If you click on the cactus in the systray and bring up the graph, click on Agent/Properties/Network and then slide the 'Delay between measurements' down to 15 secs. This can double your throughput if you've not already done it.
Also, we're currently 15th in the world by RAC on this project. We need more help! Come on chaps, Mikee is desparate to get rid of the pink wedge.
Chris.

No payment required - young Mr. Blade has the wedge for the moment! Dimes on sig? There's a space at the bottom of the 'projects tab' - just stuck my 'Dimes' user name in there. If you're doing 'Majestic 12' you can add that as well.UBT - mickyb69 wrote:Dear MR PINKIE please could you tell me how you got the dimes bit working on your sig ? ..I have tried all other sigs with no end result .
If you tell me i might stop 3 of my comps for a few days so im pink boy for a while ...just to give you a rest from the scorn and ridicule

HELP
I reinstalled Dimes only for it to cut off my internet connection as it did when i tried running it last year.
Could not access any web page and Boinc stopped uploading and down loading, anyone know a quick fix or what the problem may be.
Anybody able to help will be added to my will and get a share of my debts
Gary.

Gary,
Not sure I can help here...
You have been accruing Dimes for the last 4 or 5 hours so I don't think it's your internet connection that is going down. Could your firewall cause this? What about your ISP?
I presume you're using windoze? I run it OK on Vista and XP. I don't know about any of the others.
Sorry, not really helpful is it? You can leave me out of the will then.
Chris.

No idea! However, if you've upgraded anything since the last time then it's not that! Anything you haven't upgraded/changed - then that'll be the problem.Rockinfroggi wrote:HELP

Doesn't help, I know, but I've been dying to find a use for that quote for ages!

I did think it might be my firewall but I can't access my Firewall settings page as it doesn't recognize my user name and password :?
Though saying that why should it affect everything else but not Dimes.
Thanks anyway.
With the windows version of Dimes I have found it to be stupid.
It has blocked ALL LAN traffic on 3 of my computers (and when two have no monitors, gee what fun!)
Check Taskmanager and make sure Java.exe or Javaw.exe is not at 100% (devide that by the number of cores your cpu has, i.e Dual core will show 50%, Quad 25%)
If you see that then Dimes has pooched it...
I found the best thing todo was to install Dimes to C:\Dimes, Not C:\program files\Dimes, As Java can still cause problems with directory's with spaces.
Also make sure your Java is up to date
As Java being Java it has had a few stupid bugs.
As also mentioned check any firewall as some of them detect it as an attack and block traffic *cough*symantec pos*cough*
Also check your router if it has a firewall option enabled, as again they can detect it as an attack and block that poota from the tinternet.
Or if your using a USB modem, forget Dimes, Poor ikkle USB freaks at all that ICMP traffic

I've updated Java and installed the latest Dimes Agent, though have had to remove it to access the forum.UBT - Mikee wrote:No idea! Thanks Ryan, I've not touched symantec in years but use Comodo and my Netgear firewall.NaRyan wrote:With the windows version of Dimes I have found it to be stupid.

I had nothing but trouble when I tried it, It kept blocking things (and never gave any reason why!)
Then again it could have just been the x64 version at the time, since it was not long out
And who's this Ryan bloke?
Peeps call me that alot on forums
Thanks Plonker,
Never had trouble with Comodo as it flags up anything new and asks if I want to allow.
So what do I call you? NaRyan, Plonker, Sweetheart or Sex God?
edit, Just looked at your profile Ian, or is it Super Hero?
Ah i recently switched back to Comodo as it has ironed out alot of the problems. When i first got Comodo i had no end of problems running it on my x64-bit version of vista home premium as it kept blocking windows updates and all sorts of other things.
However, two versions later and the program works fine. I would defiantly take another look at it as it has got one of the top reviews.

That be short for Autonomous System
Tee Hee
You get credit there if you ever find or re-discover one.
Needle in haystack time it seems....
Todays technobabble brought to you by ASesAS (Autonomous System)
An autonomous system (AS) is the unit of router policy, either a single network or a group of networks that is controlled by a common network administrator (or group of administrators) on behalf of an entity (such as a university, a business enterprise, or ISP). An autonomous system is also sometimes referred to as a routing domain. Each autonomous system is assigned a globally unique number called an Autonomous System Number (ASN).

You can choose where dimes looks by entering the the www you want it to crawl and the level and depth it crawls-edges and nodes are much more likely to be found in some countrys domains than others. However this can slow the pc down and I am not sure anyway if they are still updating that part of the stats

Was wondering.
They pull a tooth and dimes breaks.
coo, the dimes network runs through my lower jaw!
Mind you the way it's swollen up at the moment I don't think much blood is running through there
Stupid teeth!
*EDIT
Just out of interest.
Anyone who is running Vista and has dimes running in agent mode.
When you are in the properties and go to network, and do the check blocking test.
Does it say that UDP is blocked?
On my Vista system is says that UDP is blocked, yet my other pootas are ok.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks to your joint efforts we filled up our storage server and have to add an additional RAID, we also upgrade our server. We will start the upgrade today and in the next 2-3 weeks we expect to have several (hopefull short) periods of system downtimes. This means that agents that terminate their scripts will not be able to get a new one and will remain idle until the system is up again.
Those of you that upgraded the agent to the new version 0.5.0 will be able to continue measure even during server shutdown since the new version has a default script that kicks in when communication with the server fails. So I advise everyone to upgrade and enjoy the new features, which include statistics tub, automatic "get info" and a new type of packet-train measurement.
Yuval

We're about to be HAMMERED by SETI.USA! They ain't messing about either!
http://stats.free-dc.org/new/allteams.php?proj=dimes
I suppose, if we're going to overtaken by anyone, they're just about as good as any!
Well done to UBT - Chris Suddick on just getting 2 million!

They have their own way of doing things - not obvious to us mere mortals!
Just gone up another place to 26th. Next target seems to be 'Team MacOS X'. They overtook us a couple of months after the project started, so it will be nice to catch them again. Problem is it'll take us three months at current rate!

by the look of the stats things are all over the place so i wouldn't worrie about it and leave it running . I think theres a jobbie in the program that lets it continue searching when the servers down .
Mine have disappeared off my computer and the only way i can get to see the setting/graphs is to stop it and restart it .
Just let it run

meh just ignore the DC stats, it will say "Stats are updating" for hours at a time, when the server is offline.
Just make sure you are running DIMES Agent version 0.5.0, that one has the stuff that lets it keep on running if the server is offline.
The errors you have been seeing are just it moaning about the server not working, when it tries to either upload the info (about every 40 mins), and the automatic get info.
