avoid us!!
I s'pose one has to wonder, after nigh on 8 years of SETI@home, (and countless millions of WUs) whether an actual ET really exists....
Gawd knows how many WUs have been processed and still nothing.
So this leads me to think:
1) Are we looking in the right place (coz Arecibo, being a non-pointable "bowl", sculpted out of a mountain side, that only points to part of the sky and not all of it)
2) Are we observing at the right frequencies (as we are making some pretty specific assumptions when it comes to which spot frequencies someone might be transmitting on !!)
Of course I'm not advocating that we STOP looking....but I'm of the thinking that we need SETI@home to widen it's focus so as to consider other avenues of the search.
In the meantime, I'm thinking of setting up a new BOINC project called
lepracaunsandfairiesattheendofmygarden@home.... coz I'm sure they exist...even if we have no actual proof of them...I'm sure if I set up a small antenna somewhere in my back garden and scan it 24/7, then I could create some damn fine WUs and that'll help me crunch a bit more and I'll keep warm over the coming winter as a result of all the expelled heat from my PCs.
