Does anybody know if I can get this cheaper?

Having problems installing that new stick of memory? Found some great software or having issues with something? Or maybe want to chat about your PlayStation, X-Box, Nintendo, Sega, even your old Spectrum 48k....! Or maybe something you want to sell or acquire (computing related of course!). Let us know here...

As the heading says, can I get this cheaper any where else?
Thanks in advance for any answers :)

£160-£170 is the going rate at the moment for retail Q6600's

Buy it now and you'll never go back to dual core/single core :D

Hi Terry,

I doubt you'll get one much cheaper than that, esp with the push towards Xmas, as demand is likely to go up....

Mind you, Intel sometimes come in with the odd price cut...but Q6600's had one of those recently...

I got my Q6600 G0 from scan and it cost me £144.49 ex VAT - but this was for the retail version, which came with it's own fan.

Look on ebuyer.com for the OEM version, which is cheaper ( £135.73+VAT) and comes without FAN. Then add an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - a great fan....!

ebuyer were doing a deal on this exact combo, for £143.45:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131823#bundles

However, ebuyer I found to be far more expensive on shipping cost...so overall, I saved a bit getting all the items I wanted from scan.

PS You won't regret getting a quad....

regards,

Tim

Hi Gary,

That's true....

Except, you have to WAIT for it....I think they mentioned something like 5 days....called their "Super Saver"...hmmm.

For the order I was going to place with them, for 2 lots of: Q6600 + mobo, RAM, fans and a couple of DVD-RW's drives, the order came to over £600+VAT, and the shipping weight was over 10 kg, so shipping was £5.99 + £4.00 + VAT = £11.74...

Scan charged me half that...

regards

mind you if you're spending that much then a few extra quid on delivery charges is immaterial.

Hi Gary,

Too true...(again).

Mind you - I had a limited time to build the quad core....due to other constraints...so I really needed to know when the delivery was going to arrive, rather than "sometime" within the next 5 working days...!

Strangely, with ebuyer, their shipping costs go UP, if you buy more....in my business, the more you buy, the cheaper the carriage (coz you're making more profit on higher value orders, so the shipping does indeed become immaterial...!

Not to worry... I might give ebuyer the benefit when I order my next bundle of kit....for my 2nd quad core...!

No worries.

I always look twice at auctions where the price seems too good to be true...esp on Buy it Now...

I usually find it's coz the VAT is extra rather than included.
