MILESTONE: 100 MILLION credits (total, overall)
Hi all,
It's a REALLY BIG day in UBT history - 17/10/07 - remember it well...coz in years to come, you can say that you were there...you were a part of it and boy does it feel GOOD....!
Yes folks, we're talking about reaching one of THE MILESTONES - the 100 MILLION mark....
TBH, I can't really believe we've now done it....but we have.!
And what's more we're the very first UK Team to achieve it...!
And, on behalf of ALL the BOINC projects, a big THANK YOU for all your efforts.
So, live long and prosper.....
and here's to the NEXT BIG ONE.....250 MILLION
I think I'll go and have a little lie down now - what with all this excitement....!
regards
Tim

I think it's a "given" that we'll hit 250 mill sooner or later....
However, I propose a different sweepstake....
When will Temujin reach 100 million.....????

Hmmmm...that's sounds like fun...a million credits per day from a single farm......I wondering how many "cores" that might take...!
I reckon a 2.4GHz core can earn about 500 credits a day....so to get a million credits a day - that's about 2,000 cores....equivalent to 500 x Core 2 Quad (Q6600) based PC's....at around say £500 per system (@ retail).....so you'd blow a £¼ million just on buying these...
Of course, you could go for something a bit more powerful (at a higher cost)
Hmmmm.....you certainly won't need any central heating...!

Tim

Super dooper pooper scooper, well done fellow frogs and frogettes, oh and you human thingies too.
Great milestone, my guess is with many slowly upgrading to Quads and core duo's we'll hit the next target far sooner than expected, under 2 years I'd say.
Saying that, we could have the Octo or Deco cores by then
Gary.

I was wondering why we were getting so many extra members over the last couple of days - 3 yesterday, 7 today then I saw...
Includes a link to the main site.
It should be there for a couple of months as only the MOST newsworthy stuff gets mentioned there so it could be a while before it drops off the page!
Also repeated on the BOINCStats site...
http://boincstats.com/index.php?pr=bo
Just about the best publicity we could have hoped for!
Carrots and Hob-nobs (carried by the donkeys) for everyone!

Congratulations to the UK BOINC Team, which today became the first UK-specific team to pass the 100 million combined credits mark.

That's coz of me....I emailed Dr David Anderson with the news last night...and he has very kindly publicised it.....!
I also added it to all the BOINC groups I could find on Facebook....!
..and a few other places as well...but let's see if they also carry the story....might be on the Beeb soon as well.....

Not everybody is happy to celebrate with us.
And why is this so noteworthy? Its not like they are the first team made mostly up of one country to pass 100 million....
Its just like te when they gave notice abot Eternity2.net before everyone found out what its true intent was... dosent look profesonal...
I think that just somebody had too much time and used it with posting news.
If the former combined #1 team "OcUK - Overclockers UK" hadn't set its country to International, they would have been the first British team to pass 100 million...
I think the words 'Pram' and 'Toys thrown out of', spring to mind!!                           :lol:Rockinfroggi wrote:Not everybody is happy to celebrate with us.

Wonder why - I don't understand some people.....!Rockinfroggi wrote:Not everybody is happy to celebrate with us.
No comment, except that we ARE the first UK team (that is still specifically ranked as a UK team) to pass this milestone....And why is this so noteworthy?...
So why not sing the team members praises????
After all, it's the TEAM that has done it, not one single individual...so why not praise the collective and it's ability to help others?
Get a grip for gawd's sake....!
regards
Tim

Hi all,mickyb69 wrote:  Sour grapes all round.
I've been in this team just over a month and have got to say you are all great team mates. Lets just keep crunching away and silence the critics. :thefinger: :thefinger: :thefinger: :thefinger:
I learnt a simple motto a long time ago that might be applied here:
"Those who can do, those who can't criticise"
(I found a little website that has some things to say about "criticism" - see here
I like the bit about "Never Was" and "Once Was"....!

When there are long intervals without problems or crises, I post items low on the list of priorities. But in many ways these are just as important because they keep members informed and encourage everyone in their efforts. The last and lowest category offers the best opportunity to thank members for their contribution.
The inclusion of the UK BOINC team in the boinc news is a recognition of the important role of the many teams worldwide that encourage and support crunchers.
