Team merging
Team merging
This might not be possible, and/or the other team might not agree BUT...
If we merge with "United Kingdom" team on climateprediction.net then, looking at the UK Stats we'll both be number 1 for a while. Also, on the World Stats we jump forward a whole bunch of places, but more importantly we get much needed RAC which will help us climb even higher, sooner.
Just a thought I had!

Re: Team merging
It's a very good idea.....sorry to say but when the Team was much younger and the leading UK teams ("United Kingdom", "Team CF" and "Lookers" at the time) were way, way ahead of us, I did actually approach various members and principles of other teams (where their contact details could be found).phucco wrote:This might not be possible, and/or the other team might not agree BUT...

But it came to nowt.
(I made a webpage about it 14 months ago...see http://www.ukboincteam.org.uk/ubt-ukteammerger.html )
The issues are:
1) Only the 3 CPDN projects actually allow credits to be transferred from team to team (as members move from one team to another). But on other projects, ALL previously earned credits stay with the former team.
2) When I first mooted this, most other teams already had an identity. So, UBT, with many good ideas, a small website and a loyal, but small team following (at the time) probably might have been the team to disband....
However, I felt particularly strongly that I could "build" a Team with a particularly unique direction - namely to support EVERY BOINC project - most other teams were concentrating solely on one project.
So, the merger idea didn't happen.
(However, recently a number of teams HAVE merged - the latest is BOINC.BE and Belgian MoOo Farm but it also relies on the agreement of the individual projects....)
Time has now moved on. UBT has now passed the three previously named teams and is now clearly the 2nd highest ranked UK Team, the highest (UK Team) RAC 8), a loyal following, great stats and forum and a fantastic team spirit helping ALL of the BOINC projects.....
And I don't have any doubt that, in time, it is likely that UK members may decide to leave their existing teams and join us (not being big-headed here), as we have a lot to offer...!
Already we have a huge amount of momentum behind us, we're about to crack the 50 MILLION credit mark....only the 2nd ever UK team to do that.....
And we've only got 870+ members....imagine if we had 8,000 members !!
So, listen up all non-affiliated UK Crunchers....this is the place to be...so come on in...the waters luverly....
regards
Tim

I wonder if any of those teams might want to join up now we're bigger, though I doubt it...

Yup....!DJH@GB-Ro wrote:Which eventually means we'll be number 1!![]()
Ah, the $64,000 question....I think if ANY members from another team wanted to join UBT, then that would be great.DJH@GB-Ro wrote:I wonder if any of those teams might want to join up now we're bigger, though I doubt it...
Of course if they happen to belong to a team mainly crunching CPDN projects (as "United Kingdom" and "Team CF" mainly do), then their credits wouldn't be wasted...and transferring over is simple - the member leaves one team, joins another (perhaps using our website here http://www.ukboincteam.org.uk/ubt-cpdn-joinup.html to make it a simple transition) and all the CPDN projects credits move over to the new team.
The issue, of course, is with regards to non-CPDN projects and whether specific projects would allow team mergers, thereby ensuring all previous credits are transferred to the new team.
As an aside, let assume another team wanted to merge with UBT, what would we call the combined team?....well, it would be a Team, crunching BOINC, based in the UK....so how about UK BOINC Team 8)
regards

97.78% of CF's credit is done by their founder, it's pretty much a one user team!UBT - Timbo wrote:as "United Kingdom" and "Team CF" mainly do

(For the sake of newer members to the forum, Temujin and I shared a "chat" about teams merging and what a merged team should be called, many, many moons ago  )
Nice to know though, that he still has his marble - I think I've still got mine somewhere....
