That was my father's drink - but I never took to it - my preference was Theakston's Old Peculiar, especially as I spent a lot of time drinking in a pub or two almost on Theakston's doorstep!

That's made me check out the fridge and i find some Speckled Hen (2 bottles) and something that I'd forgotten about, bought for me at Christmas, called Harviestoun Old Engine Oil. As black as you can imagine - it'll probably still be there next Christmas, unless I get desperate!

I had a couple of pints of Small World's Thunderbridge Stout last night, lovely stuff. I do like my pale beers too, I alternated with a couple of Ossett Brewery offerings, White Rat and Silver King. Now that's much better than talking about football, isn't it?

I'm more a bitter person myself (drink wise not personality I hasten to add) Along with last nights Old Peculiar, I also discovered a bottle of Timmy Taylors Landlord that I'd forgotten about. An enjoyable evening was had by all

I've tried the Silver King, Jeff - not a bad drink at all. Not familiar with White Rat, but I'll have to look out for it. The farm shop we visit each week, near Huddersfield, stock a wide range of beers and ales from Yorkshire breweries. Gradually working through them (well, isn't that what loyalty cards are for?Woodles wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2018 1:42 pmMuch betterJeffers wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2018 11:07 amI had a couple of pints of Small World's Thunderbridge Stout last night, lovely stuff. Which farm shop is it you visit? Bolster Moor by any chance?
Was over there the other day getting some steak, we're having a night in on Thursday for our wedding anniversary. We'd originally planned on going out but changed our minds due to the crap weather....

Re: Change a Letter - 5 letter words
Not been to Bolster Moor. We go to Blacker Hall, just the Huddersfield side of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We only found it by accident after going to a place at Emily Moor a few times, only to turn up on a Sunday to find it closed - so continuing on and finding Blacker Hall. Never looked back since.Jeffers wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2018 1:21 am

Too true, Jeff. Same here, to both sentences above
Playing in snow as a youngster when it came up to the top of your wellingtons and a snowman could be guaranteed to hang around for a couple of weeks! Walking home from school, a distance of nearly 5 miles - then back again the next day (head teachers never gave a thought to closing, and the teachers all got there one way or another). Those were the days!!

You must live in just about the only area of the country that hasn't seen much of the white stuff - or is 'smattering' the Yorkshire version i.e. 6 inches?

Re: Change a Letter - 5 letter words
We do seem to be missing nearly all of it.
I used the wording from the news report last night. Roughly a quarter of an inch laid. If it had been 6 inches, down here it would have been called a snowdrift!

Re: Change a Letter - 5 letter words
We had another 3 or 4 inches overnight, but it's now stopped - which is just as well as it's almost reaching the top of my wellingtons now in our back garden. Now that the wind is picking up it'll start to drift.

Re: Change a Letter - 5 letter words
We've got some nice drifts in the back garden, biggest is about three feet deep. Got my driveway cleared though, as we've got to venture out today, the mother-in-law's in hospital. Nothing serious, thankfully.
Been no more snow overnight but it's still very windy and cold.

If all you've had is a (southern) smattering then it's presumably just needed 30 minutes of sunshine.
The forecast at 6:30 tonight suggested up to 5cms more for us overnight

Re: Change a Letter - 5 letter words
Looking at the forecast it seems like we're going to get another lot of snow overnight before it starts to warm up. We had a bit more last night so I've cleared the driveway again (I keep telling myself it's good exercise!) as we've another hospital visit to do. Anyway, moving on....
