Looks like I'll be in the market soon as well, but not just for the sake of it!
Last night I heard some strange noises. Sounded like radio interference - the sort of noise you get when you get radio bleed into a speaker cable - that's what I thought it was anyway.
This morning it had got noticeably louder and it wasn't coming from the speakers, it was from the PC. So, just in case, I switched off the PC for the day as I didn't have time this morning.
This evening I hoped the noise would have just gone by itself but it was still there - time to trace it then.
Started disconnecting things, still there around the motherboard, by the CPU. I didn't go until I had taken out the CPU. Mind you, if you take out the CPU nothings going to work anyway, so that didn't prove anything!
So I've rebuilt it. On start up it was a bit noisier than usual as the HD sorted itself out after being unplugged, the weird noise was still there, but what's this? Is it getting quieter? I do believe it is! An hour later noise levels are back to normal!
Who says PCs don't have a sense of humour? This ones laughing it's little cotton socks off!
"Ha ha made you look"
But, seriously though, it looks like it's trying to tell me something, like the motherboard is thinking of popping its clogs. It'll have to struggle on until it really goes and I can afford to go quad.
