SR5 LLR - Prime Grid - New (restarted) Project

PG have been winding up to starting a new CPU based SR5 LLR Project since 1 Jul. Sieving has been going on full speed ahead since then to prepare for the new BOINC Project Start on 15 Jul:

http://primesearchteam.com/showthread.php?t=49

They switch to a few days of Crunching CPU Based SR5 LLR on PRPNet on 9 Jul as part of the wind up to formally Starting the CPU Based SR5 LLR Project on BOINC

On 15 Jul the SR5 LLR Project formally starts, with a PG Challenge to promote the new (revived) Project. The Challenge  will run from June 15th 2013, 18:00 UTC to June 18th 2013, 18:00 UTC. . Standard Individual and Team Categories.

All the details of the Challenge are at:

http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=5027#66251

The first few posts nail the Credit estimates, if you want some detail. Its an AVX Project, so those with AVX capable machines (which means Intel in reality) will benefit hugely (all PG LLR Projects are now AVX Enabled).

Note that whilst the more modern AMD machines are theoretically AVX capable, the AMD AVX implementation is weak, so don't expect dramatic  times from AMD machines, they will be "wiped" by Intel Based machines.

Zy

Hi Zy,

Sounds like a nice little "challenge", though it's a shame it's only for the 3 days....

Anyone interested in getting involved ?....

UPDATE 10th June
To participate, at sometime on 15th June, you need to log onto "Your Account" on PrimeGrid's website and then UPDATE a specific preference, namely:

Preferences for this project

Then select to receive WU's from:

Sierpenski / Riesel Base 5 (LLR)

(You can deselect all the other PrimeGrid projects for now).

regards

Tim

Had a Motherboard failure last night on my 3960x machine, so I will not be crunching at this one.

New Motherboard arrives tomorrow, then I have to fit it and re-load everything. It'll be Sunday night before I am properly sorted out - at the earliest, probably Monday in reality -  as the beastie does other things beside BOINC that I have to sort out. Using the Wife's at the moment as a stop gap (and to type this).

Good fortune to those Crunching at this one :)

Mmmm, not sure why, but my stats aren't being included. I forgot to start until late yesterday morning, but my account shows credit of 5628 - yet I'm not listed in the challenge stats!

The challenge didn't start until 18:00 UTC yesterday (15th) evening.  Any workunits completed or downloaded before that time won't be counted for the challenge.

If you have got a lot of workunits downloaded before the start time then you probably need to abort them.

Nearly fighting fit after the motherboard failure - its rebuilt, just got the graphics to properly sort out, but will leave that for now. Finishing off a commitment I made prior to the Motherboard burnout, then I will join in from around 2300hrs tonight.

Final (provisional) results for the challenge.  Well done to all who took part, a team position of 31st out 156 is not too bad at all.

That was a well run Challenge by the Project Team. Slight hiccup at the end when the challenge scores kept incrementing as finished WUs rolled in post-challenge close time, but they'll sort that.

Thanks go to idb for "Stepping Up to the Plate" with result summaries. Hopefully next time my motherboard will not blow up two days before the start :)

All in All  a nice one to "Bank" for future challenges.
