Crike.. already on the horizon!

Intel shows off its first six-core processor, called Dunnington, which will be available in the second half of 2008. Dunnington is based on the 45nm high-k process technology and is composed of 1.9 billion transistors. It contains a 16MB L3 cache, is socket compatible with the Caneland platform, and is made for virtualization.

I think that now the processor "speed" war is over, it's now going to be the "multi-core" war and who can put the most "power" on their silicon....

Just hope the OS dept don't start issuing different versions of their OS - coz that's when us "ordinary" people will suffer....having to pay different prices for the OS depending on how many cores you want to operate.

If M$ aren't careful, then with Linux supporting many cores "out of the box", they might just kill off multi-core desktop PC's coz no-one will want to pay the extra to run extra "cores"....a bit like the days of NT, when (IIRC) you could buy 2-CPU or 4-CPU versions of the OS.

Personally, I can't wait for the 64-core version...
