Just got my postal vote through today not much choice at all really for my area, but at least an easy decision this time around.

I'm in Park ward for Calderdale these are who are up:

Lib Dems
Labour
Respect
The English Democrats

I had never heard of The English Democrats had to google them to find out more, they sound like a bunch of fruit loops  Respect well we all know they are doolally.

So theres only 2 big parties available to vote for in my area really.

Interested to know what choice other people in different areas have

PS: Results may be delayed due to errors with the postal vote scanning software

The locals are fielding the following party's candidates:

BNP
UKIP
Conservative
Labour
Lib Dems
Green

Traditionally (here) it is a 2 horse race between Labour and Lib Dems, but the latter have yet to win! The LibDem candidate is a (convicted) benefit fraudster and renowned womaniser with a string of kids, having 'jumped ship' from Labour after his shame at being caught swindling benefits.

Seems to be case that when an area is so "entrenched" in it's support for specific parties, that other parties don't put up candidates as they are pretty sure that they will lose their deposit....so, it saves them the cost of "fighting" a seat they think they cannot win...

This is what makes a mockery of the so called "democratic process"....I reckon every major party should field a candidate in every area, coz you just never know the electorates "whim", if given a wider choice....

I'm also against the policy of putting "well-known" politicians who previously "lost" their seat at the previous election, into so-called "safe" seats, where due to the specific demographic of the area, they are "bound to win".... This happened with Mandelson a while ago and it reeks of "rigging" the process, so that each party can have it's "inhouse favourites" back into Parliament, overpaid at our expense.....

I reckon PR is still the way to go though....rather than first past the post...
