Reduced backwards compatibility for European PS3

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.
Seems Sony are having issues with the European version of the PS3:

Sounds like a cop-out to me....why reduce some functions to what is essentially software emulatin instead of running on the so-called super-fast CELL CPU's...!
