MILESTONE: UBT is now the #1 UK Team on SETI

Hi all,
Just wanted to announce the fantastic news: that as of 7:50pm tonight, UBT officially became the #1 ranked UK Team on SETI project.
Since we started this particular "quest", back on 4th May 2006, it's been a great challenge to our Team to overcome the approx 2 million credit difference between us and the team that was in 1st place.
And it hasn't been easy. The WU's have become more difficult to crunch, and the need for faster CPU's has meant that some PC's are now no longer up to the task....!
But thanks to our intrepid Team of members, (of whom I am immensley proud) we've now achieved this fantastic result.
I am sure that, collectively, we can each feel proud of the accomplishment and I'd like to sincerely thank every Team member for their valued contribution - whether you are crunching for SETI or any another project.
Now let's see about attaining the #1 UK ranking position on EVERY other project - we've already done it on 15 projects so far....over to you.
with best regards
Tim

I notice that we seem to be gathering new members rather rapidly, nothing like a bit of success to spur people on to join, eh?

Yup - we've had some momentum until now, and the membership has increased significantly over the past, say, 6-8 months.
But until quite recently, the increase has really been in "fits and starts" with no apparent cause.
But with UBT now being the UK #1 ranked Team in 14 of the projects, and #2 in at least another 12, there's a really good opportunity for the Team to substantially increase it's membership.
Personally, I've set myself a target and I would hope that we'd have at least 2,000+ members, maybe by the middle to end of next year.....as I'm sure there's an awful lot of UK crunchers "out there" who haven't joined a team yet.....!
And then we can really make a difference and REALLY help the projects....so far, we're just muddying the water with our contribution - we're doing a MILLION credits every 10 days or so at present.
But imagine if we had 5-10 times the membership: we *could* be generating a MILLION Credits a DAY...
regards
Tim

Think you mean "stuff" - otherwise, if you mean some promo girls, in ra-ra skirts, just point me in the right direction....
Otherwise, it's all in hand - wanted to wait for this evening's events to actually "happen" before making the announcement.
I know it's been hinted at before, but I'm "that close" to getting everything sorted...
regards,
Tim

I mean staff although stuff is good too.
Need one or two people who want to promote the team throughout BOINC and also away from BOINC

Err.......can I remember that far back?......I'm not sure to be honest.
And unfortunately, the projects don't email the "team founder" when someone joins up - and the list of members is not in "team joining date order" either....
I found a list of SETI members as of 15th Sep 2005, when we had 73 members, including your good self. (The team was started on SETI first, and then rolled out to other projects as they went "live").
But before then, it's pretty much "lost in the vagaries of time"....!
regards,
Tim

Hmmm....staff = overheads = money...!
And the Team doesn't generate any income, as it's not a business.
So, am not sure "staff" is the right description.
Maybe "volunteers" might be a better word.....?
In which case: My door is open - anyone want to "volunteer" themselves as "Marketing Person".

How did I manage that?
Don't remember joining the team that early! I know I joined the forum 15th March 2006 at 19:07. I thought I joined the team around the same time.
Ah, just realised it's not that far back - just over a year. Must've been around the same time that the original SETI client finished? No, that was December 2005! :dontknow:
Memory like a sieve! Be needing one of these :director: soon as well then!

Volunteer sounds rubbish staff is much better, no one said staff need to be paid money or anything at all, its just yourself who assumed that.
You never hear of promotions volunteer its always promotions staff

What can I say?
Everyone deserves a second chance. Just because I made a mistake when I was younger it shouldn't be held against me forever.
It'll never happen again, honest

BOINCStats incremental update
Say no more!
the original 73 members crunching on SETI (in Sept 2005)
Just realised that's nearly a 10-fold increase in just over a year! Now, if that could be done again....

Well, not quite 10! - more like 6½ really (from 79 to 520
SETI members)
Actual
Total Team membership has gone from EDIT: 232 (back in Nov 2005) crunching on 13 projects to over 700 crunching on 33 projects.
So, that's an approximate quadrupling of our membership in a year.
