Public access to UBT website

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all

Public access to the UBT website resumed about 4:30pm today and it seems that the website security was compromised and someone meddled with/uploaded a .htaccess file which then blocked ANYONE from accessing the site :-(

No actual damage was done to anything on the site or with the forum, and, hopefully the perpetrators will not be coming back anytime soon.

regards
Tim

Hi Penny

It's certainly nice to have some long-standing things stay the same, in a world where (currently) any manner of disruption to the "status quo" brings uncertainty and panic, frustration and incredulity to everyone and their dog !

In the long term, the forum will close, assuming the (lack of) usage continues as it is and that is just on a cost and time basis. Interest in BOINC nowadays seems to have gone off the boil, no doubt due to energy costs as well as people switching to more portable technology that is far less suitable for "number crunching" and people get their fixes from social media platforms too, so less need to interact on forums such as this.

I just wish there was a way to convert the forum database into a "group" format (such as used on Facebook) or some other platform...at least then the thousands of topics covered here might serve a purpose as a repository for future BOINC users...

regards
Tim
