Hi all
I was not aware that Willy had had a lot of medical issues since about 2021...and it seems that he has decided to stop treatment and to wait and see how his condition changes.
You can read the background to his condition, and his latest update, on his forum here:
https://www.boincstats.com/forum/1,1/12703,1
And it is nice to see that PrimeGrid are going to re-dedicate the December Challenge in his honour:
https://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=10713
So, I hope anyone who has any crunching ability available to them can join the PrimeGrid Challenge of "finding the first known GFN-21 in his honor during this challenge, which will run from December 10th at 18:15:00 UTC for 10 days until December 20th 18:14:59 UTC on our GFN Prime Search (n=21) project."
regards
Tim

Very sad, it has been extremely cruel swapping between good news and bad news so many times.

Hi all
Just a reminder that the latest PrimeGrid Challenge which has been dedicated to Willy de Zutter, started at 18:15pm on 10th December and it will run until the same time on 20th December.
Only GFN-21 tasks are being counted, but these are available as both CPU and GPU tasks, so, there are options available for anyone to join in and pay tribute to him for all his efforts to create and maintain the BOINCstats.com website.
So, if you can, please visit your PG Preferences page, select ONLY the GFN-21 tasks and which hardware you want to use to crunch these tasks and then allow BOINC Manager to only download these tasks.
Note: The GPU tasks are best set to only run when your computer is NOT in normal use, as the task is pretty demanding and hence your screen may be very slow to react to any movements of the mouse or any keyboard commands.
I set mine to: "Use GPU based on Preferences" and then set the Computing Preferences to "Suspend GPU computing when computer is in use".
UBT is currently in 68th place out of 109 (at time of writing) - but this Challenge isn't about who comes 1st or 20th or last, but about paying respect to Willy.

Hi
I don't normally do Primegrid as it always overheats the CPU - I tried all sorts to cool things down but nearly always goes over 85C, but I didn't notice that this can use GPU and that's ok - so I'm in now!
