Hi all
It's been on the cards for some time, but at some point soon and probably before the end of this year, this forum will CLOSE.
There are only a handful of members who have logged on since January this year and there are few if any recent postings that members are contributing which makes the forum rather limited in terms of it's usefulness.
I will archive all sections for prosperity, just in case there is a need in the future to bring it back.
If people want to stay in contact, there is a Facebook group (which is also rather bare of comments):
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2391147216
There is a X account (was Twitter):
https://x.com/UKBOINCTeam
And there is our channel on Discord (Note link may expire if you do not use it promptly):
https://discord.gg/Veb53A4e
And of course one can message other members via any one of the BOINC projects own websites.
It's been an eventful 18+ years online here. And I thank everyone for their contributions both for the BOINC projects as well as all the messages and postings made here.
regards
Tim

Re: Forum closure
Oh shame, but not really a surprise. Thanks for running it all these years, Tim - it certainly helped me in my early BOINCing days and was a real fun community until it got superseded by the dreaded 'socials'.

Re: Forum closure
Hi Penny
Thanks for the message.
Yes, it's been good to be able to help people set up their host machines to run BOINC, but for all sorts of reasons (such as people using inappropriate/unsuitable electronics to access the net, or cutting back due to high energy bills or just losing interest at the lack of feedback from projects about any real benefits that have actually been achieved) there just doesn't seem to be the same level of interest now.
So, the forum has done its work and it's time for it to take a break.
In the meantime, I just fixed your stats signature hehehehehehe
regards and thanks for being "one" of the few regulars over the years

Re: Forum closure
Hi
I suppose it's no surprise.
In the early days there was lots of excitement when there was just SETI, Einstein and a few of others. People drifted away or lost interest. Still remember Rockin' Froggy! At least we lasted longer than BOINCUK and their childish name calling!
Temujin with the weekly stats, Woodles outgunning everyone, Halifaxladd winding everyone up, yourself keeping everyone in order!
Ho Hum... it was fun while it lasted and as you were paying for the upkeep of the server I don't blame you for taking this oppertunity to wind things up.
Suppose I'd better fire up Twitter (I will not call it X!) and make one of my very intermittent announcements!
All the best.
Mike

Re: Forum closure
Hi Mikee
Thanks for the message.
Yes, we've both seen a lot over the years - the UBT team started up when I first set up a Yahoo group which was shortly after BOINC came into being ! before Darren set up and hosted this forum in March 2006
(And I've been a member of SETI@home since 1999, although the website says I joined on 3 Apr 1999, it was actually around July 1999, after I went to Florida and saw the original SETI@home screensaver running on a PC at a computer fair in Melbourne, FLA as I was on my way to Daytona to see a NASCAR race !).
But time moves on, we're all a lot older now (for those who are still around - I think RockinFroggi succumbed to his illness a long time back and RodEllery also passed away a few years ago). Others may have passed on too, but we'll never know.
So, I just think it's time to put this to bed, though I might just make it "read only" for a while and see what happens with BOINC and in a few months time take a view on the forums longer term future.
regards (and to Mrs Mikee) and thanks for all your contributions along the way.
