| Here's a selection of Top Tips, for you to consider when becoming a member of a BOINC project. | |
| #1 | Make sure that for EVERY BOINC project you join, you use the same email address and username for each project - that way, all your stats will combine. |
| #2 | Keep upto date with the latest BOINC software - and if you need an older version then look here. |
| #3 | Check the Technical section of each project, as sometimes, they need to go off-line for routine maintenance. If you know when, then you can switch projects, if you run out of work, keeping your PC "working" 24/7. |
| #4 | Decide whether you want to crunch 24/7, or whether you'll only crunch when the PC is actually in use. Environmentally speaking, running a PC 24/7 just for BOINC, is NOT a good use of the limited resources the Earth has. |
| #5 | The latest BOINC client now allows you to remote monitor other PC's on your network. |
| #6 | Investigate using BOINCView, to check your overall BOINC settings. |
| #7 | Set your project preferences to connect to the project about every two days. Connecting more frequently, reduces your WU cache (so you may run out of work more often), connecting more infrequently, means you may store up too many WU's that won't get crunched within the deadline. |
| #8 | Make sure you have plenty of disk space available - some projects won't allow you to download WU's if you don't have the spare capacity. |
| #9 | Use an optimised "SETI" client program - see the Team website for details |
| #10 | Join the UK BOINC Team for EVERY BOINC project you sign up to ! |
