Walk-through - how to install an optimised SETI client

This is the walk-through for upgrading the SETI-provided Windows client with an optimised client program that has no graphics capabilities, but which crunches a SETI WU in around half the time and hence is a more efficient way of generating credits on your behalf.

Step 1) Close BOINC (right click on it's icon in the toolbar and select "exit")

(after EACH of the steps 2 to 4, hit the "back" button in your browser to get back here !)

Step 2) Click on this link to get the SETI optimised client (download into a temporary directory).
(The only tricky bit is downloading the correct optimised software for your PC - use CPUID to identify your CPU).

Step 3) Use a program such as WinZip to unzip the ZIP file

Step 4) Use Windows File Manager to copy the files from the temporary directory into the /BOINC/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/ folder

Step 5) Re-start BOINC

Step 6) Notice how much quicker the new optimised client crunches a SETI WU !!.

That's all there is to it !

(The same basic procedure can be carried out for other OS as well - including Linux).
