I figured out how to fix that if you have at least one BOINC client you have this project attached to.
1. Open the file named "account_www.cosmologyathome.org.xml" in your BOINC data directory (C:\ProgramData\BOINC, /var/lib/boinc, etc.) in a text editor.
I eventually bit the bullet and did the login bodge on cosmology a couple of weeks ago. At some point I got logged out but it was a lot easier to login again because my browser console kept a history of command lines.
I think you can successfully create an account when you add cosmology through boinc.
And you have the required "account_www.cosmologyathome.org.xml" file on one of your hosts (so you can find your authenticator code), then you can log in, using this method.

Are there tasks available?
Yes there are, but they only have a limited number (< 1000) according to this:

That's the problem for me. It's been so long since I ran Cosmology that I doubt it's still present on any of my computers.
Edit: I just added Cosmology to my notebook client and it added just fine and also downloaded tasks. So I now have the file needed.
And after a few tries did manage to get into my account useing these instructions.
