Formula BOINC Sprints

Hi all

So, the consensus has been that we should perhaps broadcast to the outside world, that we DO participate in Formula BOINC Sprints.

This posting starts up that idea, in the hope that some BOINC members might find out more about the Sprints and want to get involved.

As such, any existing UBT member is free to comment about WHY you like using your computer hardware for these Sprints and also, maybe WHAT you get out of them?

(Formula BOINC Sprints - what are they?

If you didn't already know, the Formula BOINC Sprints are Challenges that take place throughout the year on the same dates as Formula One Grand Prix weekends. No one knows which project will be picked until 24 hours before the Sprint starts - the chosen project is "named" usually on a Wednesday night, and the Sprint starts officially usually on a Thursday night.

Then it's a question of downloading as many tasks of the chosen project and to then complete and upload the results before the Sprint deadline which usually occurs on the following Sunday night (3 days later). The team with the highest credits earned within the period earns 25 FB points...with other placings from 2nd down to 10th earning a decreasing number of points, based on a teams placing.

These Sprint points then contribute towards the Formula BOINC Marathon Challenge that lasts from 1st Jan-31st December and again is based on a points based system, which varies depending on how many credits each team earns on each project over the entire year).

If it all seems a bit confusing, don't worry - our Team of members have been doing this for some time, so join our forum and we'll explain all the minor intricacies and tips to help ensure that YOUR contribution counts towards the team total.

--------------------------

This is an "OPEN" posting, viewable by all and sundry about our basic involvement - if you want to find out more than is written here, then you need to join our Team !!

I'll create some "background posts" that'll bring people up to speed and from then on, it's down to what people want to post.

regards
Tim
