Check the forum post shown above, there's only some of the sub projects that find primes, some do sieving.

I'm currently running GFN-16 and GFN-17MEGA on GPUs, and PPSE on CPUs.

I've just checked my credits on various PrimeGrid tasks and can report the following stats for my GTX970 GPU:

GFN 15 - takes 100 secs - 26.33 (fixed) credits

GFN 16 - takes 280 secs - 100.96 (fixed) credits

GFN 17Mega - takes 850 secs - 465.03 (fixed) credits

PPS Sieve - takes 600 secs - 3,371 (fixed) credits

So, to maximise your credits earning potential, switch your PrimeGrid preferences to only run the PPS (GPU) tasks

You do realise that PPS-Sieve [Proth Prime Search Sieve] is different to PPS [Proth Prime Search LLR]?

Sieve apps have always paid the most credit as they are not *directly looking for Primes.

To gain a badge for TDP you need to find a 5K Prime, which means running GFR16 or above (GPUs), or one of the larger CPU apps such as PPSE or PPS.

If you want to max out on credit, personally I think you should run either GFR-22 or GFR-DYFL on your GPUs (due to the bonuses), and the sieve apps such as PPS-Sieve on your CPUs (if you have large core count processors).

I'm not wanting a badge myself, but if the Sieve tasks don't qualify for this challenge then I either need to switch strategies, or just keep on with this and maybe gain some points on the Marathon

Its not just the sieve apps that don't qualify, its any prime search that will result in a Prime smaller than the top 5,000 current primes.

From what I read and see, you have the best shot via the 2 GFRs (16 and 17-MEGA), and PPSE and PPS (on your CPUs).

I just crunched over 16,000 tasks (GFR16, GFR17-MEGA, and PPSE) and never found even one Prime (first)!

Well I've completed and had validated six of the DYFL tasks (two of them first ) and I still haven't found the worlds largest prime number, I'm disappointed

Still got four pending and six in progress but with them taking three days (on a GPU!) and the mountain stage coming up, I'm going to switch back to GFN-16 to see if I can find at least one prime this month and get a badge.

I have a couple of DYFL tasks that I am part-time crunching that I will complete over the next week or so.

In terms of TDP I have put that to one side for now; however I may join you in the mountain stage seeing as its only 24 hours (19-20 Feb).

I was interested to see that the power the root number was raised to at 65536 is the exact value normally accepted as 64K.
Is that of some significance to the way these Primes are calculated?

I hate to break this to you.. but you double-checked a Prime as you came 2nd (wingman); well done though as it took me over 16K returns to achieve one of these. I would maybe play the lottery this week if I were you!

The numbers are classed as Generalized Fermat Numbers and the power term is always a power of two
All the sub projects of this type just use a different power of two
GFN-15 is using numbers of the form b^(2^15) + 1 = b^32768 + 1
GFN-16 is using numbers of the form b^(2^16) + 1 = b^65536 + 1
etc up to
GFN-22 using numbers of the form b^(2^22) + 1 = b^4194304 + 1

I was actually sent the exact same task, abt 5 mins after the 1st person.

So, if he had been a bit slower returning his completed task, then I would have been 1st. (But his work buffer might be shorter, plus he has a GTX2070 vs my GTX970...so, the chances are that I'll always complete tasks later than others with small caches and better GPUs).

Either way, I still found a Prime !!

Whether either will count in this Challenge or not, it's good to know our PCs have done something good and that these Primes may never have been found before (apart from the respective wingmen).

Yeah I agree, its actually nice to see something tangible from the crunching you have done.

Well I had another DYFL validate ... still no new primes though

Quietly optimistic though as I've managed to finish half of my DYFL tasks before my wingman so if just one of the future ones is prime, then I've found the biggest prime number ever!

Still looking for primes but any found during today will gain you a badge regardless of what happens during the rest of the month.

So close!

Missed out on my first prime of the competition yesterday.

Returned 106 seconds after my wingman so only a double checker mention

It was during the mountain stage as well so that's two badges missed

Position 2,236 in the top 5,000 (although it's already slipped a couple of places)

All finished now and I don't think any team member got a badge/jersey?

Still, an additional 277 primes were found by other people.
