Hi all

Has anyone noticed a change in the messages in the BOINC Manager Event Log?

About 2pm today, I started seeing messages starting "[http]", which I'd not seen before.

Code: Select all

There's been no change of BOINC Manager, so it looks like the project websites have changed something...perhaps ??

and very similar to yours. What does the HTTP bit refer to?

Hi Mike

In "normal circumstances" it stands for "Hypertext Transfer Protocol", which is the normal method that browsers use to access data on websites. Likewise, other programs can access said data, such as BOINC Manager.

I know from my own experience that a few of the BOINC projects (as well as other websites) are transitioning to a "https" protocol which is a more secure version and is less likely to allow corruption of the data.

But some of the "lines of data" in this event log are quite unusual - the like of which I've not seen before :-(

So, maybe somewhere along the lines BOINC Manager knows about this and hence is showing up the difference between standard "http" type projects and "https" projects.

But if it's not that, then I'm stumped.

regards
Tim

I have not seen anything similar; maybe post it in Collatz or Albert just to double check, due to all the malware encryption viruses circulating at the moment.

Hi all

I figured it out...!!

There is an option on the BOINC Manager menu called "Event Log options" and which can be invoked with "Ctrl-Shift-F".

Within the options that then come up, are "http_debug" and "http_xfer_debug".

Now, I honestly did not set these up...but somehow, they were set. Unticking these boxes made Event Log perform as per normal.

So, a strange issue and one that had me trying to figure it out...

What I've now got to sort out, is why Rosetta is all of a sudden requiring a lot more RAM per task than has been the case.

As if I haven't got enough on my plate at the moment !!

Tim
