new short term third target

Post by UBT - Mikee »

(I've sent this somewhere after amending it - god knows where it went though! I don't have time to redo it so it'll have to go as it was!)

Now that we've succeeded in getting one of our targets we're now down to 2 long term ones. I was thinking that we should have a new short term third target, with good options for the next cruchathon.

Maybe a poll for the ones marked 'good'?

Here's my thoughts on the projects we participate in and which I think may be a good/poor option.

Your thoughts/opinions/amendments?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BBC Climate Change - ranking 16 - poor - long term project that requires long term, consistant computer usage.

BURP - Ranking 33 - poor - no consistant work

Chess960@Home - Ranking 12  - poor - no consistant work

Climate Prediction - Ranking 29  - poor - long term project that requires long term, consistant computer usage.

Einstein@Home - Ranking 48 - good - we've got good potential to rise high in the world rankings, we're 3rd in the UK, work is consistant.

HashClash Ranking 24  - poor- no consistant work at the moment and we're all ready UK number 1

Leiden Classical - Ranking 24  - poor - no consistant work at the moment and we're all ready UK number 1. Account creation is disabled.

LHC@Home - Ranking 44  - poor - no consistant work at the moment.

Malaria Control - Ranking 15 - Medium- Consistant work at the moment and we're all ready UK number 1. Account creation is enabled at the moment but may be disabled soon. Good potential if we have more members in there.

Pirates@Home - Ranking 65  - poor - no consistant work at the moment.

Predictor@Home - Ranking 48 - good - we've got good potential to rise high in the world rankings, we're 2nd in the UK, work is consistant. Account creation is enabled.

All projects get listed in a poll for crunchathons anyway, so all avenues are always covered

Edit:
XtremLab  - Ranking 12 - Good - we've got good potential to rise high in the world rankings, unfortunately everyone is listed as 'international so no official UK ranking, work is consistent. Account creation is enabled.
Where have you got your info for on that one :?  We are number 2 in the UK Rankings :!:

Edit2:
World Community Grid  - Ranking 112 - Good - we've got good potential to rise high in the world rankings, we're 1st in the UK, work is consistent. Account creation is enabled.
Where has 1st come from in the UK :?  I count 4 known UK teams above us there may be more seen as though WCG does not export which country a team comes from

As I said at the top

Crunchathons were mentioned as a passing phrase, I'm more interested in getting a new short term 3rd target to encourage new users.
