First 2011 Crunch Poll - The Rerun!

This section is where you can post topics related to Challenges from other websites, such as Formula-BOINC, SETI-Germany and BOINCstats, as well as project challenges such as from WCG, PrimeGrid et al.

As a Team, we really want to engage as many team members with these challenges, as this gives us a great way of attracting more members to our Team...plus we get to show our strengths as a Team by (hopefully) doing well in each one.

PS: I have moved lots of topics into this section where they are relevant...as you can see, we've always been happy to take part in Challenges...and long may that continue ;-)

First 2011 Crunch Poll - The Rerun!

Post by UBT - Mikee »

The projects to vote for the rerun for the first Crunch of 2011 are (in no particular order) :-

SIMAP http://boincsimap.org/boincsimap/

Average credits, around 1 to 2 hour WUs, currently 2nd in the UK.

eOn http://eon.ices.utexas.edu/eon2/

Low to average credits, 5 to 15 minute WUs, currently 3rd in the UK

Primaboinca http://www.primaboinca.com/

Low to average credits, around 1 to 2 hour WUs, currently 2nd in the UK.

(Replacement projects)

Cosmology@Home http://www.cosmologyathome.org

420 credits per WU. WUs can take many hours - 18 wouldn't be unusual. 1st UK, 24th World.

Malaria Control http://www.malariacontrol.net/

Average credits. WUs vary around 1 hour. 1st UK, 27th World.

Voting closes Friday 4th March or sooner if there's an obvious winner!

......... What are we trying to do here - gain world ranking places?
My GPUs will be busy, but I'd take part using my CPUs on a team push - but why these particular projects and how will be we able to tell if it has been a success or not?

Just a bit of team building more than anything. Discussion was here http://forum.ukboincteam.com/viewtopic.php?t=4895.

No target set yet. We'll decide that once a project has been selected. Could be to see how many credits we can get or push for climbing World/UK position or even kudos for the most credits. We used to do these every month or so when we were a much smaller team but they got forgotten about!

Anyway, 7 votes so far and it seems to be a race between SIMAP and the new option Malaria Control.

SIMAP it is then. Now we need to decide how long the Team Crunch goes on for. Also how we're going to table the runners and riders to show who's in the lead etc.
