London to Brighton Bike Ride
I'm doing the London to Brighton Bike Ride (54 miles) on Sun 18th June. Is anybody else here participating?

Re: London to Brighton Bike Ride
Have they moved it? It was 59 miles when I did it back in '93 I think. I went in to do Land's End to John O'Groats in 2002 which was just a tad further.gregoryw wrote:I'm doing the London to Brighton Bike Ride (54 miles) on Sun 18th June. Is anybody else here participating?
Best of luck Gregory and I've made a contribution to your fund.
Chris.
Completed!
Just to follow up. I completed the route in 5 hours 2 minutes today (1 hour 5 minutes faster than last year).
I took the opportunity to measure the present route on my cycle computer. It is indeed 54 miles now, like the organisers claim.
Thanks again to everyone that sponsored me!

Re: Completed!
I think that deserves a "Special Ranking" just for having the b*lls to try it, never mind to actually complete it in record time...gregoryw wrote:Just to follow up. I completed the route in 5 hours 2 minutes today (1 hour 5 minutes faster than last year).

Cheers. I'm going to aim for sub 4:30 next year. I think an earlier start would help, such that I have to tackle slightly less crowded roads, and the weather is a tad cooler.
And, in case you're wondering. Yes, I cycled all of the way up Ditchling Beacon, even if it was only slightly faster than walking pace.
Oh, and to avoid the inevitable traffic in Brighton, I parked up in Woodingdean, about 5 miles to the East of Brighton. The cycle along the coast was a nice warm-down after the ride.
EDIT: Oh, and thanks for the new "PushBike Wonder" title!

Well, if you want, but I'm hardly in that league! Though, I am rather smug that the finish line for the first stage of 2007's Tour de France is only about 150 metres from my front door...UBT - Chris Suddick wrote:How about "Maillot Jaune"?UBT - Timbo wrote:It was the best I could think of at the time...gregoryw wrote:EDIT: Oh, and thanks for the new "PushBike Wonder" title!
Anyone think of a better title, for our "trainee Olympic bike-marathon athlete", please let me know.

Tim

Last year I went out and got a freeview box especially to watch the TdF, haven't used it since but I will be blowing the dust off it next month. It's the only thing worth watching on telly all year.
