Well at last it looks like its going to happen http://forum.seti.nl/showpost.php?p=463625&postcount=84
There is a post in the Team Cafe about this but may be its a good idea to keep specifics closed to the team members ?

I am up for a go on this so if Timbo is sorting out teams count me in!

Hi Mark,

I just got a PM from Mikee about this...so we'll use this thread as a "call to arms" for anyone interested in the TKIG 2007.

If you are interested in competing in this, then add your name here by replying with your SETI username (if different to your forum name) and SETI account number (if you know it).

UPDATED: The closing date for entries is: Sunday the 28th of October, 24:00 (GMT+1)

BTW: While I have registered a "main team", there is also a chance we can have "sub-teams" within the "main team" if we get enough "volunteers"....such as North vs South or East vs West, or any other choice we can all agree on...

I'm not sure if the main team "position" in the TKIG ranking will be affected if we have "sub-teams" or whether the "sub-teams" total is added to the "main team" to give an overall total. I'll find out more and report back.

The times when the Gauntlet will be running is:
The Kings International Gauntlet 2007 will start at Sunday the 4th of November at 20:00 (GMT+1) and will end at Sunday the 18th of November at 20:00 (GMT+1).
and more info is here

Bu**er, looks like I'll miss out on this as I'm expecting to be back in my cage on the 9th October for about 6 week, still, I guess it's better to leave it to the big boys.

Gary.
That is a bit of a bu**er (hmmm butter) we could do with you.

Just had a look round for a description. Found this.

So it looks like we need 20-30 members. I think we can handle this but maybe we should post in the public section anyway. I'm not worried about a bit of competition from the others as it won't affect our SETI standing one iota.

I've moved this topic to the (open) SETI section, coz to be honest, it's not going to make any difference whether 5 members join or 50...!

It also allows the admins of the TKIG2007 to see who has signed up....

Could everyone who wants to participate leave their SETI account number, because its can be pretty hard to find an account with only a name.

Thanks in advance

S@NL - FilmFreak

PS. The gauntlet is indeed SETI-only.

It's for anyone and everyone....!

But it's primarily for teams of people, who want to associate themselves with a BOINC team, or even a sub-team of a BOINC team.

So, as UBT, we could have 4 (or more/less) sub-teams, representing say, North, South, East and West of say Oxford.....! Or sub teams representing the different counties of UK...

Each team or sub-team should comprise say 20-30 members....So, if more than 30 members of UBT want to join up, then we may have to have 2 sub teams...and if say more than 60 members sign up, then we'd need 3 sub teams.

By account number he means the the account number you can find at the bottom of this page: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/home.php
Not the cross project ID.

For you, Timbo it is 3337344

Hi John,

I've already been in conversation with "Pierre" and "Robin" from SETI@NL about this and it's just a matter of time...

If you've registered via this thread (for instance) then there's nothing else needed to be done.

The "Gauntlet" stats pages are in "test phase" at present (as the Gauntlet challenge won't start for some time), to make sure everything is working OK....team members who registered with UBT for the Gauntlet *WILL* be added soon enough....you just need to be patient to allow the Gauntlet admins time to add various people to the different teams....

They have a lot of work to do, so your patience will be appreciated.

Have I missed something here!

I know these are test stats, but are we supposed to be crunching SETI already? Will they reset the base figures on 4th Nov? How come I've got 54 credits when I haven't crunched SETI for ages?

Registration closes october 28th!!

Post by S@NL - FilmFreak »

Because it'll be quite a hassle figuring out even subteams to get an exciting gauntlet, registration for TKIG 2007 will close Sunday October 28th, 24.00(GMT+1) instead of november 3rd, 20.00!

Edit by Timbo: Wrong month was used - was october, should be november, so have corrected this.

Hi Micky,

OK, you're IN...!

Feel free to throw as much at it as you can....the only chance we have of winning is if we consider this to be like one of our infamous "Crunches" and go at it "hammer and tong".....so a few days before the start (of the Gauntlet), set all your other projects to "no new work" and then let SETI take over 100%....!

regards,

Tim

31 members now in our "Gauntlet" team

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all,

There are now 31 members of our "Gauntlet" team...!

If you'd already joined the team and you've now received a team email from me, suggesting that you join up, then apologies...

I didn't have too much time to sort out the "wheat and the chaff" from the 971 UBT members on SETI...!

I am quite curious where I can find all these sign ups. The gauntlet rules say you can sign up by emailing me or by leaving a reply here, but there are quite some participants (according to Timbo), which have done neither of these.

Could you tell me where I can find these sign ups? If I don't have any evidence of them signing up by the start of the gauntlet, they can't participate in the Gauntlet.

Hi,

The people who have agreed to join have sent me an email to ask to be included....after I sent an "invitation" to each of our SETI members asking them to join in.

If you want me to ask these people to instead email you, then that's fine, as long as you send me a NON-DISCLOSURE confirmation email to confirm that the email addresses will NOT be used for any other purpose.

Likewise, under UK Data Protection Laws, I cannot forward these emails to you, as I have agreed not to disclose members email addresses to anyone else.

Tim

You're being a tad officious there mate :D

Doesn't it just need you to post the new volunteers usernames/userids in this post?

Is it that the actual team members who wish to join us in the gauntlet, have to post their usernames/account numbers themselves.

Yes, that is right and should be the easy way.
As an alternative they can also send an email to FilmFreak.
Witch way they prefer to do it is their own choice.

We have to be able to see who actually joined.

Seems not....maybe it's to prevent a team from just adding their highest scoring team members without their knowledge...!

I can understand it....but I would have thought that the Gauntlet admins would have a bit more trust....

But hey ho....a bit more work required on the admins side then......!

Well, the plain truth is that a lot of BOINC members don't feel the need to visit the forum, and hence I felt it necessary to ping them an email about it...

This has generated far more interest than just relying on the forum membership.

We'll sort something out, I'm sure.

Tim

Don't worry about it for now....

They set up a few "Gauntlet" test pages and once the closing date has passed, I'm sure that they will then add all the participants....no point doing it more times than necessary...!

According to the pre stats we're the strongest team!

11 of us at the bottom holding up the other 210 participants!

Go team! (Or is that a bit early as we haven't actually started yet!)

Actually, if you look

here

.....UBT has the most members - numbering 48....!

I doubt that we'll have the largest team once the Gauntlet starts...but you never know...just need a few more to join in...!

Actually, you did post to the forum ....but as I thought (originally) that all these posts would make the listing unmanageable, I deleted some of the early registrations......

Then I found out that S@NL, wanted to "see" each and every registration...so I've not deleted any subsequent postings since...

But am glad you've taken the time to confirm your registration.

regards,

Tim
