QMC Mini-Crunch 20th - 27th April

This section is where you can post topics related to Challenges from other websites, such as Formula-BOINC, SETI-Germany and BOINCstats, as well as project challenges such as from WCG, PrimeGrid et al.

As a Team, we really want to engage as many team members with these challenges, as this gives us a great way of attracting more members to our Team...plus we get to show our strengths as a Team by (hopefully) doing well in each one.

PS: I have moved lots of topics into this section where they are relevant...as you can see, we've always been happy to take part in Challenges...and long may that continue ;-)

QMC Mini-Crunch 20th - 27th April

Post by UBT - Halifax-lad »

QMC has won the vote for a weeks mini crunch, a week was chosen due to the length of the WU's on offer.

At this moment in time we are only behind 385,803 credits behind the number 1 spot for the UK. Its taken a while to work our way back up to take this crown back that was stolen from us.

Now all we want you to do if you so wish is to just run QMC@Home for one week with nothing else been processed. If you don't wish to participate no problem just carry on crunching your seleceted projects of choice.

I'm sure some fancy numbers & graphs will follow this post closer to the time of the crunch.

Not running QMC and want to ask questions then feel free to do so, people here will help you with it before it becomes time to crunch for a week

BOINC@Hull appear to have stopped crunching this project now, or at least they have not had any granted credit in the last week.

OCUK seem to have picked up pace slightly, but its nothing to be concerned of

QMC Week long Crunch

Initial Stats

Official Start 00:01 20th April 2007
Official End   23:59 27th April 2007
Of course you can start and finish whenever you like - it seems some people have all ready started - no probs!

The graphs below will change when I upload a new set - should be late evening each day. If they don't appear to have changed then I either haven't changed them or you need to press 'reload'

Code: Select all

UK position as at 20:00 19th April 2007         Difference

1      BOINC@Hull                    1,036,973 (-361,385)
2      UK BOINC TEAM                   675,588

Total gain of 0
These are world teams immediately above us - I'd be disappointed if we didn't overtake SaR Hessen during the week!

Code: Select all

World position as at 20:00 19th April 2007    Difference   RAC

29       SaR Hessen                   739,339 (-63,751)     571
30       BOINC@Denmark                719,366 (-43,778)   1,740
31       Sweden@BOINC@Home            681,428 ( -5,840)   2,187
32       UK BOINC TEAM                675,588    	      3,654

Total gain of 0

So the first target is "Sweden@BOINC@Home" - we should be able to overtake them by Saturday

An impressive start to say the least. We've all ready jumped 1 World place with ease! At current rate we should just overtake SaR Hessen by the end of the week. If a few more people join in it'll be even quicker.

For graphs - see earlier post.

DAY 3 PROGRESS

WOW! A MASSIVE increase in both RAC and total! AT this rate we'll overtake BOINC@Denmark later on tonight and SaR Hessen a couple of days earlier than I anticipated! Well done to everyone taking part!

If you're not currently crunching QMC it's not too late - anyone can join in at any time.

This is one of the better projects in that you can see progress correctly, screen saver works and best of all the quorum is 1 so you get instant credits as soon as a WU is finished - and they're generous with the credits!

DAY 4 PROGRESS

Great going guy's! Just about 1/2 way through the crunch and we're doing great!

Up another World place and we'll catch SaR Hessen in the next couple of hours.
At our current rate we'll catch Nordlichter by the end of the crunch. Looking at the daily output graphs it looks like we're topping out at around 20,000/day which is the equivalent of around 40/50 cores running 24/7.

DAY 5 PROGRESS

OK So I was wrong about daily output peeking at around 20,000 - it's still rising - nearly 22,000 today! Still plenty of room and time for anyone else who wants to join in!

If you haven't attached to this project before then the project addy you need is...

Make sure that the team name is ours otherwise your score won't count towards the team total!

I thought (don't worry that's what the burning smell is) the question was rhetorical otherwise there would be a long list of members saying they were interested and making the thread very unwieldy.

DAY 6 PROGRESS

Multiple milestones today!
Clicked up another world position to 28th.
Clocked up over 100,000 credits.
Increased the RAC to over 10,000.
Decreased the difference between UK 1 and 2 by over 100,000
and I've had to add 2 more target teams!
If we could get TKWSN that would be one heck of a scalp!

Quite honestly I'm gobsmacked by how well everyone is doing and how this is going!

And....

no-ones complained about the project which has to be a bonus! :-D

Well I'll make up for it now then.

Bit of a blip on the graphs. BOINCStats hadn't updated last night when I was doing them so I took the data direct from QMC. As QMC was more up to date this meant that there was about 28 hours worth of data rather than 24 so it looked like the output was better than it actually was (22000 rather that 17000). It's corrected now and today's was the best ever!

Has any one given a thought to continue with this crunch till we take #1 ???
Mike could probably predict how much longer we need to go to reach this target?

Only a thought as the project seems to be stable and no one has complained as David said, normally I will be winging away but no complaints from me!!

I had thought about it but it's going to take around 3 weeks at our current rate. It's a bit much to ask members to crunch continually for that amount of time.

However, there's nothing stopping anyone from continuing anyway and I suspect there might be a 'Sneaky Club' mission nearer the time!

I'd be happy to go on with this if there are enough others willing that we would reach our goal, but I really must request a short break as a week without a shower is one thing but four weeks?   Even the rats would move out, plus I need to empty the porta loo and get something to eat, maybe eat first :?

Those willing to go on say YAY, those not interested ignore me as usual

DAY 7 PROGRESS

Still increasing!
Nordlichter RAC has increased so we're not pulling away as quick as before but as the crunch is coming to a close soon it doesn't really matter too much as the main target was always to close the gap on BOINC@Hull.

Not bad Mike. Especially like the fact I'm in both 9th and 10th place
Darn! I blame you then :D
I've changed it here but I can't access the site to change it there at the moment.

It'll be sorted the next time I update it - maybe tonight.

I may well keep going for that amount of time, we can keep a close eye out on the other projects and if needs be break out the Sneaky Club to set upon other tasks

Entirely at your discretion....of course, if we have a current RAC on QMC of around 20,000+ per day, then the gap to becoming #1 UK Team on QMC is around 12 days....(at current rates) so it's well within our grasp....

Of course, the main task has been accomplished, in that we've cut down the gap between us and the #1 UK ranking position....making it an easier task to become UK #1 if we resumed normal crunching rates...

But it would be nice to be #1 sooner rather than later....so if you have no other project that needs your help, then why not keep going for a wee bit longer?

regards,

Tim

I need to resume WCG as we have just slipped out of the top 100 over there (a few teams from lower down the rankings started doing as much in a week as we do a month so came flying past but there are still teams above us we will overtake). Still have some QMC wu's to finish but they will have to be the last for now.   :(

No worries  8)

And besides, we mustn't start falling back on ANY other project...so thanks for keeping our WCG end up...!

Last day tomorrow - officially ends 23:59 but I'll update the stats as long as I can remember!

DAY 7 PROGRESS

Something has gone weird with the stats today - but I can only report what's there. TKWSN increased their lead and Nordlichter added 34,000 and went up to 27th place, our output only went up by 12,000 (only?) but we have overtaken RoCa. So I think there's a bit of a lag on our stats going on and should correct tomorrow.

Graphs show output from yesterday via BOINCStats

QMC PROGRESS (Endex +3)

I dunno - miss out a couple of days and we go up 3 world places! Russia weren't even in the running last time!

We have now acehieved 53% of the required amount to catch up with BOINC@Hull. That all you say? Well let's put it another way - in 10 days we've increased the total credits by 29% - that's an increase of nearly 1/3 in ten days of the TOTAL TIME QMC has been running - that's one helluva rise!

Daily output graph is showing a decrease which is to be expected but it's not going down as quick as others have once a crunch has finished which is great.

Anyway, we should catch Nordlicher (again) in a few hours. Then it's a bit of a slog to AMD Users.

Code: Select all

UK position as at 19:00 30th April 2007         Difference

Just a heads up on this project, I have run out of work on some of my PC's, looking at the message log on the Boinc manager it says there is work but my PC has insufficient memory!!!!!!  I have WU's on all PC's that are in excess of 50hrs so unless there is only the later WU's available I will be stopping QMC shortly.

QMC PROGRESS (Endex +7)

For graphs - see above post.

As to be expected, output has dropped over the week, but excellent progress is still being made in that we're still producing nearly 3 times what we were before the crunch and we should hit 1/4 million over the 16 days later today.

Nordlichter are proving to be a right pain to overtake in that there is at least one person over there who only outputs once a week - but does it in style with around 30,000 a go!

BOINC@Hull have virtually switched off - producing only 100 in the last 10 days and are dropping down the World position chart to meet us!

If your main project is usually SETI now's as good a time as any to temporarily switch over as it seems they won't be back on-line until Monday at the earliest.

I`m still running QMC too, mainly because you get `instant credit`, and it`s quite generous.
