Where is the work ?

Post by Naon »

Hi happy new year to all

I have noticed that since i have been working over christmas that i am not getting any new work from :-

Seti / Einstein / Spinhenge or Rosetta

Could someone have a look at this for me please ...

Edit: Admin edited to reduce posting length

Also that it is saying that SETI is already attached, but it is not showing in tasks.

Thanks Naon

This is probably why you are getting no work

Boinc thinks you have too much work already, do you have work on other projects?  (ABC was a pain as it was showing the workunits would take 1000's of hours when they only take mins, but work fetch would be suspended.)

Also, the sad truth is that a 993MHz PC is not the fastest CPU in the land and so, if you have a good stash of WU's it'll take some time to get through them....

So, my suggestion to you, is to "suspend" the CPDN WU (as you have until 24 Apr 2008 19:44:11 UTC to complete it....)

And then set ALL the other projects to "No new work".....

This will then allow you to clear your backlog of the other projects (if you have WU's waiting to be crunched).

Once you've got them ALL crunched, allow CPDN ONLY to crunch....and wait until you are about 60%+ done on CPDN....then, allow maybe one other project to crunch on a 30% resource basis (with CPDN getting the other 70%).

The fact is that you may have far too much work to do and hence BOINC refuses to allow more work to download.....

By clearing most of the back-log of work, you have a far better chance of finishing the CPDN WU. (which is the most important one of all).....because the CPDN projects needs the fully-completed WU to do any research on it.....fact is that half-completed and then aborted CPDN WU's are NO good to them.

ar that makes sence.

But i have only got one project running, that is Climate Prediction

But what can i do. Seti was sending work when i had not finished the first

But now nout. All work units done (Empty Tasks Screen exept CP)

CP only 1.42% done.

If you are thinking of aborting the CP workunit so you can do others, then do it now rather than later, otherwise let it complete.

That's a shame, as the CPDN WU would have earnt you a lot of credits.

But not too worry - it would have been tough to complete fully anyways.

Try to only join a project with shorter duration WU's - PrimeGrid is good, as is Rectilinear  8)

If you want good credits for your computer, as it is rather slow, then think about joining SIMAP and Einstein.  Simap has no work at the moment as it is sporadic, and the Einstein servers are down.  However the wu's will take about 2 hours for Einstein and gives 12 credits and SIMAP 19 credits per 2.5 hour wu.
If you leave Simap looking for work with a resource share of 100 and say Einstein 30 and Rosetta 10, Seti 10, and Spinhenge 10 with a work cache of 0.2 days you should always have work, and you computer will not be overloaded.
Just a suggestion of the way you might set up a system

Another with short wu's is Xtremlab, they run under 10 mins on every PC I have and credit is about 1.5 per wu which equals just over 9 per hour
