A project that measures how long your computer is switched on for, abit of fun really

a lot of the guys with stupidly high uptime are the ones that have servers for companies that don't turn off unless for updates :-) think my record is my current uptime

My best uptime will probably be on these crunch weekends when the computer stays on all of the time!

Now I just have to update my sig :?

Now I'm officially UBT Donkey User Of The Day you shouldn't listen to me. :D
But.. on the uptime page, theres an uptime images link, in there you'll see a bunch of sig images, click the one you like and it will display the BBS code below.
Copy and Paste that into your forum sig box (in your profile) after your current sig code.

I'm in, have taken out the clickable link on my sig that they provide was too long to go into my sig

Well I'm assuming standby stops the uptime, or people could just standby their computers :?:

I dunno really, I never use standby (or hibernate either).
In either case, is the computer still running? processing applications?
Or is it so far down and just waiting for you to do something to wake it up?

As you say, I would think either would stop uptime.

Well maybe once I've hit the entire month I'll give someone else a chance to top the team stats. Adobe want to install an Acrobat upgrade and it can't do it a present cos I didn't rebooot after the last one. :x

Maybe after the weekend!

Must get on here in the evenings at some point, seems most people are on then and I can have a more real-time conversation!

Bit too busy today. Also no-one sent me a PDF file so Adobe did't remind me.

That said, given the season it's tempting to let it run for 40 days and 40 nights.

Well in 2 days time Microsoft issues its latest critical updates, I was guessing all of you auto-update, well once that was done you would have had to restart your computers for the changes to be made

Aha, a very cunning plan, of course it fully depends on the MS users installing the updates.
And then theres us Linux users :D

I stay away from the updates, and just throw on the SP's when they come out,

Hey Temujin,

JUst found 2 Solaris boxes  that've been running for ages. Know how I can tell how long they've been running? Top doesn't work. Must see if any uptime clients available.

Also found a AIX 4 box, same question.

Our Linux mail server  unfortunately clogs fairly easily. (some connections don't get closed properly) so that is set to reboot nightly.

Also got a couple of HP-UX boxes situate in California and a NCR_UX box. must investigate further.

only used solaris on a test machine we had years ago, its unix ish aint it?
never seen AIX but isn't that unix ish too ???
would've thought uptime was on both
if they are unix ish, you could try ps -ef | grep init, although thats likely to just give you a month or maybe (if your very lucky a year) rather than a definate uptime figure.

I'm warning you though, 2 can play at that game mate  :D
definately got some linux boxes that have been running over a year, maybe longer
and then there's the DEC Alphas
and the Sage boxes
:D  :D

OK we'll call it quits on the Unix boxes and just use our main machines. Anyway Have to install SSH server on them soon, plus CVS version control. Will probaly have to reboot anyway,
