Only 8 days since the last update but it's back again now.

Those that were using Free-DC stats should now use http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page ... proj=dimes

Yippppeeeeee!!! Nice One, team!

This is the only non-BOINC project I'm crunching now, given up on F@H since the 10 gazzillion credits/day lads took over!

How long 'til there's a GPU app for Dimes?

Not that I'm one to tell tales, but I don't want to be Mr. Double Pink again!

Ian! Best you get going again as you're gonna lose your #1 spot! (I'll still be Mr. half pink but but it's better than being a total pinky!

And there was young Mr. Chris trying to sneak up on you!ImageImage

As for running Dimes again, nooooooooo thanks, I get niffed off having to got slap my Router about, due to it thinking, that all those pings was an internal attack, and locking all moi pootas out from the internet!

Long time no post!

Just having a look at how we're doing... http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page ... proj=dimes and http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page ... BOINC+TEAM

Not too well! Which is weird as I've been doing these for years!

http://www.netdimes.org/new/?q=node/10 reveals the problem. If you've got Windows 7 and using the Windows firewall - it's blocked! You have to manually adjust the firewall settings - which is a bit of a faff! README file explains how to do it - sort of. It doesn't tell you that ICMP has to be a 'custom' rule and that there are 2 versions of it!

I've done the rules and it seems to be doing it's thing again though I won't know until after tomorrows update.

If I start getting weird things happening due to the new rules (which may be allowing things through that shouldn't) then the rules are coming out and Netdimes is going!

Stopped crunching this ages ago. The stats weren't updating at all so I got fed up with it!

Do dimes credits add to my BOINC total? Just, im considering joining it, but don't know if I want to if they don't add to my combined total - not yet, anyway...

thanks

ok - thanks, and haha!

Is it worth asking DIMES to join BOINC - they would get more volunteers, and it would boost our credits on UBT's BOINC, making it a win-win situation?!

The problem is that BOINC tends to award credits based on CPU usage or computing power donated. Dimes uses practically no CPU power. It sends out a routing packet onto the internet and awaits its return to plot the structure of the internet. It then idles for 30 seconds (or whatever time you set it to) and repeats. You get one point for every packet sent. Because of this, my old dilapidated laptop scores as many points as my fast(ish) quad processor. This is an ideal project for someone with slow hardware because they can compete with the best of them.
