New kid on the block - ATI 5870

Post by Ben »

Thats right folks... MW & Collatz will soon be speeding up im sure!

The lowdown on this beast is:
1600 stream processors
Core clock of 850MHz
2.72TFLOPs compute power (thats per SINGLE gpu!)
Consumes power of 188W and 27W when loaded and idle respectively (credit crunch? what credit crunch?)

These units should result in 2.16 TFLOPS for the HD5870 and 4.56 TFLOPS for the dual-GPU part. Yes, you've read correctly - we are going from 1TFLOPS chip to 4.6TFLOPS within 13 months.

The 5870 therefore packs 1,600 stream shaders, 80 texture units and 32 ROPs or render output units. (What this means ladies and gentlemen is that ATI are back in business with a card which still costs LESS then the GTX295 and as far as i can see - more powerful).
