Section 1
Mission Statement
To be the best UK based team!
To help our Team achieve it's "destiny", we highly recommend that you ensure that you have joined up with "UBT" for EACH and EVERY project that you are crunching for.
This is to help us to continue rising up the ranking charts for all the projects in both UK and World ranking charts.
By doing this, you help us to maintain our momentum, as well as making our Team the "logical choice" for any other UK-based members to join. And this helps the projects to benefit from our dedication and our contributions to their causes.
Furthermore, we would also request that you do NOT join multiple teams. This is because ALL of your credits are added to EACH Team you are a member of, which then makes it more difficult for "UBT" to overtake other UK and World based teams.
Over the course of the last 5 years, our membership has increased considerably, our total Team credits continues to increase month-on-month and our support for all the BOINC projects continues unabated. As such, "UBT" has become the No. 1 UK-based BOINC Team (thats supports all BOINC projects).
And we wish to continue this rapid rise - we have plans in place for further Team activities and events and there's some long term plans that are now being considered to help us increase our membership even further - we currently have over 2,600 members.
Once you've joined the Team, we would ask that you upgrade your personal profile and signature for each project that you are a member of, so that it reflects your membership of the Team.
This is optional, but it would help us to increase our membership for all the various projects, as other non-Team members can then see our website and forum and hopefully, we can then grow our team even quicker.

How We're Doing
We're doing great thank you!
Seriously though, the team is now well established as one of the top World teams due to your efforts.
Over the last two years (since the last update) our World position has increased from 34th to 22nd with another increase due in the next few days.
On 24 February 2009 we finally became the Top UK Team across all projects by overtaking OcUK and have continued to extend our lead over them. The Scottish BOINC Team (TSBT) are now our main challengers for this top spot but output has recently changed and we are now outproducing them again.
Teams membership has increased from 695, in November 2006, to 2645. A massive increase of 1,950! On average, we're getting another 60 members a month.
The sudden changes in the 'Total membership' graph are due the way Willy at BOINCStats presented the info.
Our percentage of 'active' members to actual membership is very high compared to all other teams at 31%.
Since inception there have been 82 BOINC projects, 50 of which are still active. UKBT can boast that we've contributed to all of them!
Credit output has increased beyond expectation!
OK! I know the above graph looks a bit blurred and complicated. What I've attempted to show is how much output has increased since September 2006. Then we were doing 2 million/month. A year later this had increased to 6 million. September 2008 output had doubled. Since then, with the introduction of GPU based projects, our DAILY output is now over 1 million A DAY!
Naturally in some projects we are doing better than others. A case in point would be World Community Grid. Historically, we've never done to well in this, but even in this project we've now started to reverse the trend and are now going back up in the World, albeit slowly.
Overall though, in most projects, we're going up. If we're not the #1 UK team, we're there or thereabouts. This is due to your continuing efforts. In these days on credit crunches and ever more expensive outgoings, instead of output decreasing as you would expect, output, if not goiong up, is certainly holding firm.
Well done everyone and may the trend continue ever upwards!

Crunches, Missions and Challenges.
First some definitions!
A crunch is where we decide to have lots of members do a particular project. There's usually a target and set time limit. Mini crunches would normally be 2 days over a weekend, longer crunches longer, usually a week sometimes longer. This is all in the public domain and anyone can watch the progress. Anyone in the team can join in.
Missions are similar to crunches but are always limited to select, trusted members of the team. No mention of them is ever made in the public section of the site, though once the mission is over something may be said! These are usually when a particular target team or target UK/World position is wanted. We recently had a 4 week mission - more of that later.
Challenges again are similar to crunches but this is where we are pitted against a range of teams. We've only competed in World Community Grid, PrimeGrid and Kings Gauntlet challenges.
Crunches
Up until around a year ago we had crunches every few weeks. This year, due to other commitments we've only had 1 crunch in January.
This was a MilkyWay crunch where the target was Top 10 RAC (Recent Average Credit), Top 10 World Position and 600,000 credits over 7 days. Before this crunch we were lucky to get 300,000 over 7 days. In this case we got 1.2 million! Plus the other targets as well.
One of the by products of a good crunch is that we draw attention to that project and usually some members stay on it and the overall contribution to that project remains high well after the crunch has finished. Since then we have managed to get to 8th in the World and our credits have gone from 15 million to 75 million in less than 6 months!
Missions
As described above the missions are secret until over. Most of our missions were against BUK(BOINC UK) though, more recently, they have been against TSBT.
The last one was a four week mission where we had a 2 prong attack with PrimeGrid being the secondary target and Yoyo being the main target. Yoyo was a big ask as we had to get from just over 1 million to over 2.5 million in 28 days or so. Put another way, we had to more than double our total output since project inception!
We assumed that they would notice the PrimeGrid output increase, divert resources to that project, then we would switch over to Yoyo. In the event they still haven't noticed and we are now over 1 million ahead of them in PrimeGrid, and just over 100,000 ahead in Yoyo!
No doubt, after reading this, things may change!;-)
If anyone feels left out of missions or wants to know more there is a separate forum for this, though there are a few conditions...
1 - They must be a member of the forum.
2 - They must have been actively crunching for the team for several weeks.
3 - They cannot crunch for any other team.
4 - They've got to get past UBT - Founder!
Any members that feel they might meet the criteria and would like to participate in future missions - PM Tim and ask nicely!

As the credits for this project are historically poor (and still are!) generating any interest in these challenges is a challenge in itself. By far the most successful challenges have come from PrimeGrid. We competed in nearly all of them and, when publicised, we've always done well.

What is Kudos? In our case it's praise for outstanding credit gains, be it individual projects or across the whole spectrum of BOINC.
The great thing is you won't need to have a huge amount of credit to earn a bit of kudos or even a huge amount of computing power, though that helps!

My personal observations then!
What have we learnt?
Well, one thing is for sure - we're going up! Our output since the last update has been nothing less than spectacular. Of course, a lot of this is due to GPU/PS3 grid and MilkyWay which tend to give more than normal credits compared to other projects.
However, this also applies to all other teams - they have similar resourses so should go up by the same proportions. The fact that our output has increased compared to most other teams just shows how popular and commited our members are!
A glance at the 'Kudos' page also shows that you don't need to be a forum member or contributer. There's a few names there I know are not forum members - love to see you pop in for a chat guys!!
Members come and go. There's been a bit of 'churn' in membership but even there it's very little compared to most other teams.
http://boincstats.com/stats/team_member ... 25bf7eb076 shows team movement. Go to the bottom and see have many members have left over the last 3 months. Now compare that to how many joined! I'm not going to bother counting but it certainly looks impressive!
Right - that's it! It's taken several days to compile and a lot of 'delete', back, forward, copy and paste. It's by no means an exhaustive review of 2 years worth of crunching but it's a much as you're gonna get!
If some one reminds me around April next year thats this need to be done again I will gently, but forcefully tell them to NAFF OFF!

However, this also applies to all other teams - they have similar resourses so should go up by the same proportions. The fact that our output has increased compared to most other teams just shows how popular and commited our members are!
A glance at the 'Kudos' page also shows that you don't need to be a forum member or contributer. There's a few names there I know are not forum members - love to see you pop in for a chat guys!!
Members come and go. There's been a bit of 'churn' in membership but even there it's very little compared to most other teams.
http://boincstats.com/stats/team_member ... 25bf7eb076 shows team movement. Go to the bottom and see have many members have left over the last 3 months. Now compare that to how many joined! I'm not going to bother counting but it certainly looks impressive!
Right - that's it! It's taken several days to compile and a lot of 'delete', back, forward, copy and paste. It's by no means an exhaustive review of 2 years worth of crunching but it's a much as you're gonna get!
If some one reminds me around April next year thats this need to be done again I will gently, but forcefully tell them to NAFF OFF!

As a team we have done fantastically, and as you have mentioned we have given some projects a boost in our team crunchs.
Well done to ALL including those who may only do a little and will most likely never get to the top 10 (me included!). However all that little helps get us to where we are, and where we are heading today.
With the expansion of powerful GPU's i see BOINC undergoing a big change in this next year or so with major speed increases! :D

Looks like it's our turn again to lead the RAC race. still want to get you all on total though but I'm a patient person...The Scottish BOINC Team (TSBT) are now our main challengers for this top spot but output has recently changed and we are now outproducing them again.
This news will be returning with me to the rest of the clan and we shall see what we can come up with for you. We're kind of working on a long term goal to take out an old rival in a certain climate project so i think most of our cpu is on it for the forseable future.In the event they still haven't noticed and we are now over 1 million ahead of them in PrimeGrid, and just over 100,000 ahead in Yoyo!
No doubt, after reading this, things may change!Wink

By the looks of things, unless we can magic up a bunch of big hitters or buy a shedload of GPUs, TSBT will have UK #1 in a not too distant ~100 days.
We may be the better part of 100 million ahead but you're catching us at ~1 million a day
