Forum Rankings
Looks like this post was wiped when the database had to be put back to the last copy we had.
A forum ranking is just a way of telling who is active in a forum, and also puts a ranking to there name based on there post count
So for Example
1 - 50 Posts = Newbie
51-150 Posts = Novice
Etc, Etc
Doesn't have to be in that format, can be something fun.
The rankings don't give you a special status its just a reward. Most phpbb forums have the ranking system switched on and it doesn't detract new members.
So if anyone has ideas of a theme post them in here.

The post thing sounds fine, as you say, that's what most other BB forums have. If not posts, time of being a member or something, but I think posts is fine.UBT - Halifax--lad wrote:Any suggestion of a theme then, there were no replies to the post this morning so I know no one had suggested anything as yetDJHunter wrote:I vote Yes!

Hmm, have to think hard on this one.....
Maybe we can have a changing theme - so one period might be:
computer terms (newbie, nerd, browser, etc)
another month might be:
insects (ant, fly, spider, ladybird, etc)
and another month maybe:
chess pieces (you know what a chess piece is....!)
Might just make it more fun....?
Hey we could even have a vote on it !!!!
regards,
Tim

Or maybe:UBT - Steve Taylor wrote:Hmm Continuing the earlier mentioned Dr Who Theme (Avatars)
K9, "Peter Purves", Leila, "Bonnie Langford", Rommana, Lethbridge-Stewart, "Billy Piper", Jo, Sarah-Jane
or even:
Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Richard E. Grant, William (edit) Hartnell (/edit), Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker
or even:
No, will stop there....this could get silly...!

I was thinking something on these lines too but if we do any vague, weird, or just plain insulting rating systems, we might need an explanation somewhere obvious so that new people aren't put off.
If you were doing the Doctor Who thing, I for one wouldn't have a clue what they all were and where I was in the list! Mainly because I always preferred Star Trek and Star Wars.

Hi Mark,
You're quite right - it would need to be obvious - esp. so we don't "alienate" anybody !!!!
Let's see what others think !

I just had a brain-wave...!
Why not have a ranking based on the total number of credits earned for the team????

Just seen my ranking or should I say lack of one
David - don't worry - just make a few more nice posts, clean a few more of my shoes, and THEN you might be considered !!
Think Darren and I are trying to figure out which rating might suit you best:
On the one hand - too low a rating might not be a good thing. But too high a rating might tip the balance and you might become too powerful.....!
Hmmmmmmm!
Think we should put this to a vote !!
What ranking should we give "UBT - Halifax--lad" ??????

Tim

Hi,Gamma^Ray wrote:What about for non-members ? Not sure if the one I have is a good thing like "Hey, Heres a different team member ! :D ",
Or "Hey Heres a different team member lurking around " LoL.. Just kidding, But was courious about regular ratings.
The forum only allows non-members to post messages in the Help section. And the ranking is dependant on a member user name in order to "count" the number of posts...so, no "member name", no ranking...!
As for the different team member "ranking" - this was only done because I thought it relevant for UBT members, to highlight to them if a non-Team member puts forward an alternative opinion, to then be able to show that there might be a reason why such an opinion is expressed.
Likewise, giving other teams a "plug" is also a fair way of showing that our team recognises that other teams exist and that they are also doing a pretty damn good job as well...
And I think it's also good from the competitive side, to show that other teams members like to visit our forum and also, that they make a valued contribution here as well.
regards
Tim
