New BOINC version available - v6.2.14

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all,

A new BOINC Manager is now available:

From Facebook BOINC Researchers (here: http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2208317473 ):
BOINC has finally come out with version 6.2.14.

It is recommended that you upgrade to this:

Why? - because BOINC Manager now starts up without any security warnings when you log in. Application graphics now work in all cases.

Improved security- BOINC now offers Protected application execution: in this mode, applications are run under an unprivileged account, so that they cannot access your files. (runs it as a service and it actually works well this time)

Improved interaction -You can now select multiple items (projects, tasks, etc.) and operate on them as a group. Meaning suspending, updating, and the other buttons without having to do each separately.
Get it here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php

regards

Tim

At the risk of asking silly questions.... what is the best way of upgrading the Boinc client from 5.10.45 to the latest version without losing WU's.

I am currently using 5.10 on Windows and also on Linux command line.

Any advice appreciated

I have never had any problems just upgrading (in windows)
I just exited Boinc, installed new one and ran it, and it carried on.

However things as always can go wrong.
So probably best way is to set all your projects to no new work, let your cache run out, report all work, then update.

Fine if you are not running Climate Prediction with over 364 hours to complete  :!:

Anyway, as the man says, never had any problem updating [so far anyway] :)

I`ve just downloaded it. My rig is Windows Vista, and it is the first since 5.8.16 that automatically restarts after boot up.

Until about 3 months ago, you could have had it with pleasure!
It blew 3 hard drives and eventually had to go back to the factory.
It seems that there was a problem with the bios system.
Seems OK now though.

Mickyb, check the release date of those two versions, 6.3.6 is earlier than 6.2.15, which has worked 100% no problems for almost a week!

Just noticed, that hovvering the mouse over the boinc symbol in the sys tray, now gives all the work units runnings, % completed readings ..

I used to get that randomly before ..  :D

Or is this nothing to do with the new version lol

Well spotted fellie!, Don`t know if it`s just the latest version or not, but I`ve never seen it before. It`s quite handy either way.

I tried out the latest BOINC version today for the x64 version. What a load of pants.. It wouldn't even connect to the localhost  :? Stupid thing. Stick with the current stable release guys and gals.

I will also continue with 6.2.16 until 6.3 can at least start a project.

Think I`ll stick to 6.2.14. Works very well with Vista.
