M25 (Surrey stretch) speed camera's upgraded

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all,

I've been reliably informed that the M25 in Surrey from Jct 10 - 15 (aka the Variable Speed Limit section from the A3 to Heathrow) have (or are) being upgraded to digital types (currently film types) and that they will become "active" as of 15th Feb 2008.

The new digital cameras are going to be set at the normal 10% of the
speed limit + 2mph.

So, if the speed limit is set at 70 mph (the national limit), then the camera will be activated if you pass at 80 (or higher) mph.

If the variable limit is in force, then it is likely that the camera activation limit will be based on the same ratio (+10% + 2 mph) - so you'll get a ticket if you drive at:

35mph in a 30 zone, or
46mph in a 40 zone, or
57mph in a 50 zone.

This also means that the "old way" of getting out of a speeding ticket (crashing your vehicle into the camera and then driving forwards and backwards a few times over it, thereby destroying the evidence), won't work anymore.... :-(  )

regards

Tim
