I`m very sorry to hear your sad news. 50 is no time to die these days, your mum must be devastated. Being 60 myself, I keep reading obituary columns where people younger than me have died. It makes you think of your own mortality.

Kindest regards, Rick.

Extremely p****d off. Was 18 hours into a large WU when the pc crashed and lost the lot. Why dosen`t it happen 5 minutes into one instead? I`ve decided that God must be a massive mainframe on another planet, and he dosen`t like me.

Maybe I`ll start running Seti@Home and see if I can spot him.

Happy

Just discovered that our 3rd child in the oven is a boy.

My eldest, Trinity, is two and a half and she is already pretty good at using a mouse, a touchpad and a trackball on various computers. Jaren is 18 months and he is tech-crazy. He loves playing with anything with electronics in it.

Great news. So that'll be 1 older girl with 2 younger brothers.....

How's "mum"? Keeping well and screaming for Ice Cream on her hotdog's or something similar?

And when's the big day when he should be making an appearance?

Mum is good, but at least she is eating her ice cream and hotdogs separately :)

April 7 is the due date, but the other 2 were both 2-3 weeks early.

Hmmm, so we're talking about a late Pisces or probably an Aries child.......!

Once spring comes, then we'll have to do a "Crunch" in "celebration" of the event (and gives us then 2 excuses to drink a few beers !!).

Fuming...

Post by UBT - Chris Suddick »

After 3 weeks of yanking my chain I finally snapped today and sacked the 'builder from hell'. It's left me in a right hole but it's gotta be better than dealing with this merchant banker.

If anyone in the Warrington area is ever considering having a bathroom refurbished then contact me first and I can tell you who NOT to use.

Christmas Blues for da Skallz by mine

2 off em were caught red handed by one of there dumb ass feet    8)

Had a break in at my factory by an 18yr and 15yr old lads who where seen by police running from my mums car after bailing out the car   , when questioned they said they found it with the keys in it, but little did they know that when they messed up the office and threw all the paper work everywhere, that they had left a dirty big footprint on a piece of paper

Your Going Down Lad     Your Ass Belongs To Me

So now I've got to fix loads of locks, doors, roller shutters, get my mums car fixed (engine runns funny, wobly wheels, bald tyres - gits) get a new van, fix one of the vans ign and steering column, tidy up the office, but worst of all work out what jobs where on the jobs board that the B@$##@^@$ wiped off.
Someone unknown still has one of the vans, probably used for a smash n grab, but they left all the office equipment though, and didn't touch any of the RV's which are worth £50k+ -

they must of had propa big bolt cutters , chopped straight through 1/2" steel clasps and huge padlocks

Must have been the night for it in Liverpool. My daughter lives in Liverpool and she had her car broken into last night. The scroats flung all her possessions over the pavement and stole the steering wheel! Why? I remain gobsmacked.

Annoyed at my own hamfistedness  :x

Was installing a funky new hard drive enclosure on my main machine and didn't notice one of the power cables had looped round a capacitor on the motherboard

Net result:- one dead Asus fatality 939 board, 24 hrs of lost crunching and a £200 bill for an impromptu upgrade to an AM2 board, chip (4200X2) and a gig of DDR2 ram, so its not all bad

Anybody know where I can buy a 6.3V 1800uF Aluminium can electrolytic capacitor?

- numerous electrical or TV repair shops?
- a friend who has an account with RS?
- a phone call maybe to the Asus distributor for a spare part?
- maybe someone (possibly PiezPiedPy) in the car trade who fixes electrical faults?
- a quick trip down to the municipal dump and pick up a dumped/faulty TV, as there's bound to be a similar capacitor "in there" somewhere...!

From my days in the electronics trade I seem to remember that values like that were usually used for voltage smoothing so I'd have thought that either 1500 or 2200 uF's may well work - 2200 would be better. When you do get 1 may sure you put it in the right way round though - assuming it's electrolytic!

If you want to be a little "adventurous", and not need to get an "exact perfect physical match", you could wire in two insulated "wires" from the boards plated "through-holes" and then get 2x 900uF, or 3x 600uF (or any other combination (e.g. 1x 1200 + 1x 600) and wire them in PARALLEL onto the two "legs" coming up from the board - a little bit of hotmelt would hold the cap's together - this will then give you the desired 1800uF capacity.

Or, you could use the 2200uF capacitor, assuming the usage of the cap is for say voltage smoothing. If it's being used for something else, then the extra capacitance might have an undue side effect. Shoudn't do any harm to try a 2200uF....if you cannot get/make up the correct value.

The voltage is important, as long as the voltage specified on the replacement is the same or higher than the voltage on the broke component you will be OK.  8)

Arg. Makes me want to dig up my leathers ! I always did like the R6's design. A friend of mine had a sweet FZR 600 that was almost flawless, Until he let a buddy of his take it around the block, And then dropped it in his own driveway. If I ever locate where my pics are of mine (Haven't seen since my last move   ), I'll post it somewhere. I had a customed 93 Gsxr painted with a special Viper Red paint from Italy, And all the usual modified engine work that goes with the territory with these bikes    A friend of mine has a Gsxr 1100 who was going to extend the back wheel, But I haven't seen him since then and don't know how it worked out. Motorcycles are almost as addictive as BOINC !

G^R
Do you include free shipping to the states with the bike ?     j/k

OK - didn't think to click on the word "Project" as I saw the drop down items and clicked both of them and didn't find a bike...!

But if you click the word "Project" then sure enough a couple of piccy's are shown including the bike...

And worth the wait it was as well....!

(And in one piccy, CIMG0609, I spy a RED Beetle - is that the '72 VW you've taken 8 years to get to   ?? )

Glad you peeps like it. First time using the holographic flake. The pics don't do the bike justice, got a propa shine to it and the holographic makes the top layers look like a rainbow effect, same as a CD in the sun when you look at it from different angles.

I was trying to hide the X-Mas Beatle because off shame - it's stayed there wondering when herbies comin for tea for aeons, I've done maybe 6-8 months work then ran out ov money, then new jobs have come up leaving me with no spare time    so it's sat there v-nearly finished for 8ish yrs, I might hopefully get started on it again this centuary  :?

It's just taken 6 hours to drive 50 miles through a snowstorm.

Tired and pi??ed off with "Sunday" drivers who can't drive more than 5 MPH through 1/2" of snow. "Oh look it's snowing let's go for a drive - get stuck, put the foot down and makes lots of noise, block up the road and get nowhere" - At least that what it felt like.... ggggrrrrrrr

Yes - I'm in a bad mood so don't wind me up!

There, there....just you have a nice cup of tea and maybe a wee dram along with it...and then settle down for a nice evening by the fire, knowing that you will gain great Karma and sustenance from the rigours of the day... For Lo, you have PASSED the test and got from A to B with great bravery and without injury....

I'm not a happy bunny at the moment.
I left Tiscali at the end of January to go to Sky broadband.  Sky would not accept me as a customer until the Tiscali LLU marker was off my telephone line, so had to wait till the 8th Feb.  The Sky letter with my email address and password etc. has now got lost in the post and as I found today after 40 minutes on the phone.
The line will not be activated until the 24th Feb, and they have not yet posted the router which has my username and password encrypted into it, so I can’t even try my existing router.
On top of that a computer crunching SAP corrupted its hard disc yesterday, losing  work from 1st February, and I won’t be able to get it working again until I can go back on line.
Ofcom are making MAC codes easier to obtain, but people with LLU are having the most problems, and Tiscali and Sky seem to use BT for all the work anyway. It should not take this time!
Whinge whinge.

Well my current mood today is about as bad as you can get.  I learned yesterday afternoon that a friend of mine had been murdered by her husband- shot twice in the abdomen and he then shot himself in the head.

They lived in a place called Bay St Louis which is in Mississippi to the east of New Orleans.  They lost everything when Katrina hit the town. They got $164 compensation - the insurance company said they weren't covered for natural disasters.  I guess that's what contributed to her husband's depression.

I'd never actually met her - but we've been emailing for about 8-9 years.  We were both on an Eric Clapton Yahoogroup and she came over a couple of years ago to see Eric at the Royal Albert Hall with me.  Unfortunately the night before, her husband phoned and said she was to come home as there was a "family crisis" - so I missed meeting her by a few hours.

She was a very funny, optimistic, caring  person who never let things get her down - even though she had every right to.  She was a novelist, and also wrote very funny poems.  She was 58 and believed that age was just a number - women in their 50's are in their prime.  She loved life, her family, her town, her Church, her music.

And I am just so shocked and upset that she's gone in such a horrible way.

Well you did ask what our mood was like.

I just found this report on the incident.....

sounds very tragic....Kinda makes life seem so fragile that it can be taken away so brutally.

I'm sure the Team would wish to pass on it's condolences to the family...

Annoyed very annoyed, I was told nearly 3 weeks ago I required a PET scan and have only just received the appointment this morning telling me my scan is on Thursday (2 whole days notice)  And best of all, the scan will take approx 4 hours and is at, wait for it... 'The Institute of Nuclear Medicine'.

Still, if nothing else I should be able to glow in the dark for a while after that which will cut down lighting here at home.  :violent2:

A bit miffed!

Been trying to find out why protected WMA music tracks won't play on any of the players I have.

I've worked out it's because I changed the processor so the players think it's a different computer.

Okay... just renew the licences from the stores I got them from - shouldn't have to pay for what I've all ready paid for!

'MusicMatch' doesn't give the option which is where I got most of them from - tells you what you've bought but won't let you restore - as far as I can see anyway. So what happens if I try to download a track again? They know you've downloaded it once - if you want to download it again that'll cost you the same again! Pooh! This PC is marked as active as well so it shouldn't be a problem as far as that is concerned.

The other site I use has been 'deactivated' and it's recommended site doesn't recognise me!

Windoze Media player 10 allowed you to restore a licence 'backup' - guess what? I've got version 11 and that doesn't allow it!

Tech support tell you you have to delete the DRM licences (once you've found them - I have found them eventually) - but surely if I delete them I'll be no better off?

Luckily, I've only spent around £30 or so on downloads, but that's not the point.

I think I'll go back to my old ways of having a nice, hard copy like I used to and burn good old MP3s again!

I was just getting to like downloading single tracks for 99c and hearing stuff I hadn't heard for years again.

Has anyone else had this problem - or is it the 'Kiss Of Death' striking again after a several week hiatus?

[edit]

Well would you believe it? I deleted the DRM folder. Media Player complained that it couldn't get the licence. Tried 'MusicMatch' - it complained but downloaded a new licence! Result! Just have to go through each individual track and reacquire.

A lot happier now!

AMD  FX - 62,  just fitted it with the heatsink & fan it came with as it had  good reviews but its running quite hot !

Does it need a "bedding" in time do you think ?

AMD are supposed to run cooler than intel, what temp is it under load and did you use a good thermal compound?

Currently at 53c & the fan is flat out at 2800 rpm , the heatsink it came with was pre applied with paste.

Don't know whether to use the AC freezer 64 pro I was using, ( I cleaned the paste off it, and only have a tube of coolermaster htk-002 ) or pop down to pc world and buy one of them fandango zalmans with the speed controller so I can turn off cool n quiet.

If the Freezer is sitting there doing nothing I'd stick that on(if it's compatable with your chip), that temp is getting close to an Intel Prescott so I'd say it is a bit high, but never having run an AMD I could be wrong.

Says on the box, all AMD Athlon 64 x2 up to 5000+ & all FX cpus, and it did keep my 4600+ at around 40c

Panic stricken, like an idiot I've agreed to be interviewed by the BBC regarding the cost of staying in hospital.
They are on their way to me as I type this and if the interview is usable will be on the 6pm news.

Better go put my make-up on and change my nappy.

Just getting used to a more relaxing lifestyle, as I've just taken early retirement after nearly 30 years in IT.
No more pagers! No more middle of the night call-outs.......
It still feels a bit strange, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

BTW, referring to some earlier comments, I have an AMD 64 3400+ and it's running at 45C.

Just to resurrect this thread...

...depressed.

Just realised that today is the 30th anniversary of passing my driving test! It only feels like yesterday. Where'd it all go? I feel terribly old now

You are catching as well as depressed...hadn't given it any thought before but it's 30 years since I started work, riding m/bike. Looking at the rain outside yet again reminds me of the really hot/dry summer of 1976, not just life gone the weather as well

30 years ago for me brings nothing but a big grin to my face, but that's another story and too X rated for this forum.

Life's way too short to be depressed about your age or anything for that matter, I'll send you all a consignment of my happy pills, then the whole forum can be awash with the Frog style of pointless waffle

Gawd, just though, too long ago for me to remember when I passed my test.

Feeling immensely relieved at getting my Broadband back working. I've been off for over a month due to a c**k up with my phone line.......
It's made me realise how much I rely on being able to just pop onto the web any time I need too. I'll be a lot more careful in future about dabbling with alternate ISPs.

Damn narked!

Wifey is on a 12 hour shift so I thought this would be the perfect time to upgrade the hard-drive and install windows on it. PC is running very slow on start up, the defrag doesn't work and I've got bad sectors.

Got a nice new 320GB SATA drive. I've never had a SATA drive before but I had all the leads and drivers so I thought there shouldn't be a problem.

Everything started bad! BIOS didn't recognise it at first, but a bit of tweaking sorted that - so I thought.

Windows... 'what drive'? poo

More tweaking of BIOS which then found the drive...
Windows... 'what drive'

More tweaking in windows...
Windows... G drive = removable drive

uh?

Click on G: windows says 'insert disc'! - it's a HARD DRIVE!

OK it's a new drive - needs to be formatted - right click on G: - format - won't have it!

A lot of faffing about, windows disc, safe mode, even tried formatting from a floppy, wandering round the net, microsoft, Hitachi, various others.

Eventually, 8 hours after I bought the drive  :(  I found a post saying exactly my problem! The reply was even better - done that, been there, done that... ah....

Control panel - admin tools - Computer management - disc management - go on....

YES!!

At last. It's now formatting (58% after 30 minutes but I'm happier).

Just hope it's there after the format and reboot!

So now I'm where I should have been 8 hours ago and preparing for a re-install on the new drive - but it's not going to happen today now!
