Problems logging into Cosmology? SOLVED

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all

I was trying to log into my account at Cosmology"home but I couldn't - due to an SSL error on their website.

BUT: On their message board is a solution, THAT WORKS !!

http://www.cosmologyathome.org/forum_thread.php?id=7828
I figured out how to fix that if you have at least one BOINC client you have this project attached to.

1. Open the file named "account_www.cosmologyathome.org.xml" in your BOINC data directory (C:\ProgramData\BOINC, /var/lib/boinc, etc.) in a text editor.

2. Find the line that looks like this:

<authenticator>1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef</authenticator>

Let's call whatever you have in the place of "1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef" the authenticator.

3. Open http://www.cosmologyathome.org (note http://, not https:// in the beginning!) in your browser

4. Open the browser console (usually F12 for Firefox, idk for Chrome/other browsers - (says Timbo: I use Brave and F12 works !)

5. Switch to "Console" tab

6. Insert the command and hit enter:

document.cookie="auth=1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef"

Here, replace 1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef by your authenticator you found in the step 2.

7. Reload the page. Voila! Now you're logged in.

I just leave it here in hope this manual might be helpful for those who are still have their BOINC clients attached to this project.
Grateful thanks to "muzzdiez" on their messageboard for posting the above.

regards
Tim

I eventually bit the bullet and did the login bodge on cosmology a couple of weeks ago. At some point I got logged out but it was a lot easier to login again because my browser console kept a history of command lines.

I think you can successfully create an account when you add cosmology through boinc.

Hi Carl

As long as you have an account - which you do have !

http://www.cosmologyathome.org/show_use ... id=1513828

And you have the required "account_www.cosmologyathome.org.xml" file on one of your hosts (so you can find your authenticator code), then you can log in, using this method.

Yes there are, but they only have a limited number (< 1000) according to this:

That's the problem for me. It's been so long since I ran Cosmology that I doubt it's still present on any of my computers.

Edit: I just added Cosmology to my notebook client and it added just fine and also downloaded tasks. So I now have the file needed.
And after a few tries did manage to get into my account useing these instructions.
