Good to be back

Post by Havoc »

Wow, its been a few years since I was last here. With the sad news about Arecibo & Seti I decided to reinstall bonic to see if I could help other projects.
Huge thank you to Timbo for helping me.

Currently putting 100% to Milkway@Home and if I can get my second pc fixed will be able to assist with any team projects.

Hi Mike

Welcome back :-)

A lot has changed in the last 14 years since you were last on the forum - quite a few people have given up "crunching" BOINC tasks, a few have (sadly) passed on, and we've had quite a few new people join up too.

And the forum has moved to this URL and has been upgraded a wee bit...though all of that took place just a couple of years ago and was fraught with problems, after Darren (who created and hosted the forum) stopped being involved.

We're still the UK #1 Team - we're still pushing hard to climb up the World rankings and we're still trying to support as many old and new projects as we can.

I've upgraded your forum membership, so you can see a few bits that are just for Team members, as you clearly fulfil the criteria ;-)

So, if you have any questions, feel free to ask away :-)

Had a quick search on here but wasn't successful so hopefully someone can point me to a link where its explained.

Please could someone point me to the FAQ of how I set up so it contributes to UBT efforts if its not automatic and secondly where I could get one of the many really nice stat displays please. Been a long time since I was last on here so apologies if I've missed the obvious.

Hi Mike

Your credit contributions to the Team will be "counted", once you join the UK< BOINC Team on each project website.

So, for MilkyWay, if you visit the projects website here:

https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/team.php

And then type in "UK BOINC TEAM" in the "find a team" key words box, and then hit the "search" button, you'll get a list of teams and descriptions and UK BOINC Team should be at the top.

Just click on the team name at the far left and on the next page it'll show our team page and there should be a link to "Join team". You may then need to login to the project website to complete the joining process.

And that's it...but for each project, you need to visit each project website and do the same process, as above.

re: stats displays

There are a few who offer this:

One of our team, Paul Munday, has for many years offered some "stats counters" that you can use:

https://boinc.mundayweb.com/html/index.php

Or you can try:

https://classic.boincstats.com

And then use the top left search box and input your BOINC username - you'll then see a list of member names and you can then select the one you think is you, such as:

https://classic.boincstats.com/en/stats ... bt-flinger

you will then see a small blue/white graphic (under "options") at the far right and if you click that, you'll see :

https://classic.boincstats.com/en/stats ... 2/overview

And at the bottom is the link to your stats display:

https://classic.boincstats.com/signatur ... 62/sig.png

and this shows up as:

There are others, but these will maybe give you some choice to begin with.

Tim

So, thanks for (re-)joining the Team :-)

Onwards and upwards as they say !!
