HOW far North?

Post by davidBAM »

Thanks for the invite

Hello from Huntly and, if that isn't far enough north for you, I originally hail from Orkney

Hello! Welcome to our humble forum where the best UK crunchers (and others - can't forget CO!!) reside. Perhaps you could be persuaded to jump ship to UBT permanently? (tee hee)

No

Thanks for the welcome Penny. I do believe you are the first female cruncher I have encountered.

Thanks for the PM @damienh - I'm not allowed to reply to it at the moment though.

Happy to be able to reciprocate some of the help received from UKBT in earlier challenges

HI David

Welcome to the Team and thanks for accepting my wee invitation. :-)

That truly is quite far north (at least as far as the UK is concerned...). I think the furthest north (in UK) that I've been is Edinburgh !!

But where I used to work, we had some customers who had retail establishments in Huntly, Ellon and Inverness, though I never got to visit any of them (and it was a long way to go as I was based in Kent at the time).

regards and enjoy your visit :-)

Hi David

I've checked the "forum settings" and as you are a "Registered user" and so you should be able to read and sent PMs.

What error message do you get when trying to reply? Or is that option "greyed out" somehow?

That's very kind of you - all such help is greatly appreciated :-)

Hi David

My, that's incredible...

We've got quite a few ladies who've joined UBT over the years although currently, Penny is the only one who has remained active on this forum. But a number of others are still BOINCing (perhaps in a much lower capacity than some chaps) and have been for some time.

Though I do agree that BOINC does appear to have more of a "male following"...maybe it's because of the "tech" side to it, and the tweaking of hardware to get the best out of it?

Thanks Tim - yeah there is a lot of road between Kent and Huntly. Orkney is another 4hrs drive North of Huntly + a ferry

If you drove from Kent to Huntly, half way would be maybe be around Penrith so not exactly a day-trip

I'll try the PM thing again. If I am also in 'Newly registered' users, that might have a setting which overrides 'registered users'. Phpbb will use the harshest setting of any groups I am in

ETA : yup, Reply button is there now thanks

It's still the UK (so far!) so that counts :)

Welcome.

Thanks for your (and others) help David, sadly it was not to be but a thrilling finish to what was heading towards being a boring sprint.

Can you thank Steve, Mega, SolidAit79, PecosRiverM and hugh jarse (Bryan?) for their help, I assume Jason is an XS person?

Will do - TaaT always have a good finish, probably xii5ku or whatever his name is.

Hugh Jarse is Mega's alter ego.

It is mostly down to XS to be honest as their generosity allowed us to be generous. I just posted this on XS forums ...
UBT gained 235600 in last hour but TaaT gained 392600

Ah well - you guys engineered 1st, 2nd and 5th place which is pretty good going. Thanks a million for all the help

"Stefan"

Ah, thought it was one of Bryans

Very kind of them, I think it unlikely that they'll ever be in a situation where they need our help but we owe them one.
