BOINC 5.8 for Windows & Mac

Post by UBT - Halifax-lad »

Get it now its out
BOINC 5.8 has now ready for public release.

Some of the highlights for this release include:

Simple GUI (Complements of World Community Grid)
Basic CPU identification
CPU throttling
New CPU scheduler
New work fetch policy
Improved memory management
We have one outstanding issue with the Linux client at this time. As soon as we have resolved it we'll release it as well.

We would like to thank everyone for their hard work in making this a solid release.

Thanks!

Glad you're keeping tabs!

Was quite happy with 5.8.3 but have downloaded and installed it anyway.

Anyone else wanting to do this can get it from here.

Don't forget to close down the manager (file/exit) before installing. Shared installation works fine for my setup.

Had 5.8.3 and tried to download 10 days work from Einstein and only got about 5 days.  Upgraded to 5.8.6 I think with the same result. When I went back to 5.4.11 I got the full 10 days.
Crunching off line now with no ISP as I try to change. LLU seems as though it will take a LOT longer than MAC codes.
