Post by chriscambridge »

So I had a few issues with one of my mobos' hence I was stuck with 2x 1080 Tis spare, so I thought I would try and see if I could try and get 5x 1080 Tis running on a single rack. Surprisingly it work..

1x MSI GamingX 1080 Ti
1x MSI Armor 1080 Ti

Hi Chris

So, I wonder how the neighbours feel about the amount of fan noise that lot produces?? Plus I'm sure it keeps you nice and warm in the winter. ;-)

I was hoping to see a nice heat exchanger, gaffa taped onto the exhausts of the GPU's so that they could boil up your morning cuppa !!

It's not too bad as Pascal GPUs do not really make that much noise even under load.

They do produce a fair amount of heat though, which is fine in Winter, it just means you get to offset your non-existent heating bill from the running costs.

Summer however will be quite another story..

Very impressive Chris.

Following on from Tims idea of making a cuppa, just place a slice of bread between each GPU and breakfast toast is sorted as well :)

Well that is tea and toast sorted then..

I am just putting the 2nd rack together now as the final Ti has arrived.

Also I just setup 4 VMs on the V3 so I am currently tested that strategy too. In truth VMs are pretty remarkable really.

Sounds good to me. I don't suppose they get hot enough for bacon .... ? :D

Have you warned the local power grid about the expected dip?

Pretty simple to set up and run, you'll have more difficulties getting Boinc to run how you want it on all four VMs.

Hi Mark

I'm sure if they were overclocked and laid on their sides with a bit of tin foil (to stop the bacon grease fouling up the GPU fans), I've sure they would do fine.

If the entire rack was enclosed, it might even get hot enough to cook some jacket spuds too... ;-)

I think it might be time for Chris to invest in some nice solar panels and a Tesla 100MW Powerwall, as used here:

I think Chris might find some open space on Jesus Green he could "compulsory purchase" and run some nice thick cables down the road and into his gaff?

You mean Parker's piece.. Although I did grow as a kid a couple of streets away from Jesus Green.

Believe me, If I had the money I would be buying Tesla batteries (and cars) for Wind and Solar arrays.

I have just managed to get my very first VM based work unit crunching..

Hi Chris

Ah...yes, that's the place - when I lived near to Cambridge, I always got those two muddled up.

PP is where they hold the Winter Ice Rink and opposite where the fire station was rebuilt along with some apartments...
