PrimeGrid challenge #3 Yuri's Night Challenge

This section is where you can post topics related to Challenges from other websites, such as Formula-BOINC, SETI-Germany and BOINCstats, as well as project challenges such as from WCG, PrimeGrid et al.

As a Team, we really want to engage as many team members with these challenges, as this gives us a great way of attracting more members to our Team...plus we get to show our strengths as a Team by (hopefully) doing well in each one.

PS: I have moved lots of topics into this section where they are relevant...as you can see, we've always been happy to take part in Challenges...and long may that continue ;-)

14	Crunching@EVGA 20,844,000	1,737 (+174)
Still peaceful where UBT are although EVGA seem determined to eventually spoil the party for L'Alliance and [H]

and

No major changes.
L'Alliance slowly fighting back against [H]
EVGA still closing on both.

14	Crunching@EVGA 34,464,000	2,872 (+ 784)
TAAT dropping down the table.
AMD also dropping down the table, we may go up a place :D

Hi Mark

Given that I'm well on my way to the 100m total credits mark on PG, I might just keep crunching these tasks, even AFTER the Challenge ends...esp as each task is worth 12,000 credits. :-)

According to this (link below) this sub-project is only about 20% of the way through their tasks and they started in Nov 2020, so plenty more tasks will be continuing to be available for some time to come:

http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.p ... rue#149997

I'm on a total of 98,969,010.34 at this point, so, another 1,030,989.66 should do me fine...that's only another 86 Yuri tasks...should be easy :-)

Tim,

Great idea as this project is the fastest credit getter for fast GPUs running single tasks.

The PPsieve is fast and can be multi-task per GPU, but WW also gets near-primes, IMO it's a simple fast way to increase credit scores.

Good Luck

How long does each task take on your GPUs?

I'm running two at a time on each GPU and the usage still only reaches ~90%.

Thanks.

Hi Mark

1 task 0n 3090 is 270 secs. I haven't tried 2 tasks as Afterburner shows 99% usage. As CPU is almost nil, I presumed the GPU was doing, all the processing, indicating 2 tasks would create an overhead.

1 task on 3080 is 320 secs.

Regards

PS CPU task - 3950X running 30 cores gets 10500 secs.

1 task on 3080 is 320 secs.
Thanks. I've not got anything as modern as that but my 2080S is turning two out in 900 - 1000 seconds so roughly half your 3090.

I can't remember the figures from setting it up but it was definitely better to run two at time.

I just tried 2 tasks on the 3090, and it comes out around 530 secs, whereas 1 task is 270.
The savings would add up in a challenge, but you would lose a degree of "first-finder" with slower execution times. Interesting though.

13	Crunching@EVGA 65,940,000	5,495 (+182)
Despite a brief flirtation with 10th place, UBT finish in a very credible 11th out of 104 teams.

and

Code: Select all

 10	Homefarm 54,744,000	4,562 (+189 tasks)
 30	Woodles 23,628,000	1,969 (+ 76)
232	UBT - Timbo 1,164,000 97 (+ 5)
341	UBT - Mikeejones 252,000 21 (+ 1)
Out of 453 participants.

Slightly disappointed that I didn't make the 25 million mark but I'll live with it :)
An amazing performance from Richard, not only did he out crunch 443 other people but he single handedly out crunched 88 other TEAMS :o

HI Mark

Thanks for making the updates on this Challenge...11th place isn't bad going considering just 4 UBT members took part...

...and Richard indeed put in a sterling effort, outscoring many other members, and earning 10th place in the World...

And as for outscoring 88 teams !!...that alone is worth a few :happy-cheerleaderkid: :happy-cheerleaderkid: :happy-cheerleaderkid: :happy-cheerleaderkid: :happy-cheerleaderkid:

Well Done to the 4 musketeers !! :o

Hi fellow Muskateers,

Thanks for the kind words Mark, it was fun to use the GPUs to their full extent.

At least we have kept the team in a good scoring place, which is worth an effort.

I shall switch off a few things to keep the meter cool, and I’m not sure what to do next.

Take care all it ain’t over yet.

Richard
