The THOR Challenge Pure.
At the end of the third week of the THOR Challenge, 20 teams will be selected to participate in a fifth week of challenge called THOR Challenge Pure.
We've somehow managed to make it through the first week in 27th place so we're eligible for the second week - https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team ... geId=10187 :D

Could you look out for an invite to the second week Tim? Might as well stay in the competition as it's not costing us anything and we might make the third week.

Hi Mark

Thanks for the heads-up.

Have just logged into WCG and have seen the "invitation" so, I've accepted it...have to see if we can make any in-roads in the 2nd week of this Challenge. :-)

The league table shows the following for posns 20 through 30:

Code: Select all

Posn	Team Time taken
20 Sweden 13 years, 185 days, 10 hours, 57 minutes, 38 seconds
21 UserFriendly.Org 12 years, 312 days, 14 hours, 49 minutes, 7 seconds
22 Antarctic Crunchers 12 years, 136 days, 46 minutes, 35 seconds
23 AMD Users 11 years, 151 days, 20 hours, 37 minutes, 51 seconds
24 TeAm AnandTech 11 years, 143 days, 4 hours, 13 minutes, 34 seconds
25 The Scottish Boinc Team	10 years, 182 days, 11 hours, 50 minutes, 7 seconds
26 BRASIL - BRAZIL@GRID 9 years, 268 days, 23 hours, 12 minutes, 58 seconds
27 UK BOINC Team 7 years, 128 days, 18 hours, 59 minutes, 49 seconds
28 Crunching for Ryan 7 years, 114 days, 9 hours, 16 minutes, 53 seconds
29 World Community Grid España	6 years, 349 days, 8 hours, 10 minutes, 58 seconds
30 CANAL@Boinc 5 years, 214 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes, 26 seconds
Our 27th position stats show we crunched 7 years, 128 days, 18 hours, 59 minutes, 49 seconds

The next team up the table (ie 26th place) has crunched: 2 years and 140 days more than UBT, so we might struggle to move up :-(

regards
Tim

Thanks Tim, I doubt we'll make it through the next round (top 25) but you've got to be in it to win it :)

Hi Mark

No worries.....

EDIT (22nd Sept):
At the end of this first week of challenge, the 50 best teams will be invited to the second week of challenge that will take place from Monday, September 21, 2020 to Sunday, September 27, 2020.
Invitations will be sent to the Captains of the 50 best teams on Tuesday, September 15, 2020.
Added this bit as the English phrasing of the quoted text is a bit non-linear.

So, the SECOND week of the Challenge is from 21st-27th Sept and UBT was invited as we were in the Top 50 teams. Got it now !
At the end of this second week of challenge, the 25 best teams will be invited to the third week of challenge that will take place from Monday, October 05, 2020 to Sunday, October 11, 2020.
Invitations will be sent to the Captains of the 25 best teams on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.
The following part of the Challenge (ie the third week) is from 5-11 Oct...and on the 7th Oct, the announcement will be made of the name of the project chosen for the 19th Sprint.

So, potentially, if the chosen project is a GPU-based project, or it's one we don't have much chance of doing well in, then we could turn our CPUs attention to the WCG Thor Challenge and then try and put in a good result? ;-)

regards
Tim

Second week, 21st through 27th, run time only, no need for fast cores just lots of them, any sub project counts.

UBT need to be in the top 25 to progress, currently 27th - https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team ... geId=10238

If it's not a CPU sprint this week then I'll be switch cores to WCG.

Hi Mark

Thanks for the heads up.

Shame we didn't get into the Top 25.

I'd actually stopped downloading QuChem tasks and had a stash of WCG tasks all ready to smoothly switch over, once the last Sprint ended...but I'd also forgotten when the Thor challenge finished... :-(

But no matter, it's all for a good cause.

Tim
