ODLK

This section is where you can post topics related to Challenges from other websites, such as Formula-BOINC, SETI-Germany and BOINCstats, as well as project challenges such as from WCG, PrimeGrid et al.

As a Team, we really want to engage as many team members with these challenges, as this gives us a great way of attracting more members to our Team...plus we get to show our strengths as a Team by (hopefully) doing well in each one.

PS: I have moved lots of topics into this section where they are relevant...as you can see, we've always been happy to take part in Challenges...and long may that continue ;-)

Hi Tim,

I was going to have a try last night but I found that Boinc in its wisdom had filled my caches up with SRBase work and there were no ODLK tasks downloaded.

A few hours of lost crunching there but sorted out manually and I should have some baseline figures now.

Nothing else happening tonight that I'm aware of so I might try then :D

Not bad going, when I checked we were still 2k behind L'Alliance :)

Don't think we'll catch S.USA in seven hours though :(

Don't forget, once we've passed Poland then seti.germany are less than two days away and, as they are our closest rivals upward in the main table, then it effectively doubles in value getting past them.

Hi all

Less than an hour to go on the BOINCstats Challenge...

This shows our efforts, vs Italy.

https://boincstats.com/en/stats/177/tea ... d%5B%5D=42

Poland didn't take part in the above challenge, and hence don't appear.

On the main ODLK marathon though, the stats haven't updated since my posting earlier today (at around 8:30am). :-(

So, I don't know where we stand :-(

Hi Tim,

Using the figures from the ODLK site, the current FB marathon situation is:

Code: Select all

Pos.	Team Points	2018 credits	Total credits	2017 total credits
 8	BOINC.Italy	4	1,176,854 1,176,854 0

11	UK BOINC Team	- 903,167 959,589 56,422
So UBT closing in on Poland :D

Hi all

And another "by-product" of this challenge is that we've now overtaken TSBT and taken 2nd place in the UK stats on this project.

https://boincstats.com/en/stats/177/tea ... %20Kingdom

and looking at our Team stats on the project website, we now have a Total credit of 1,016,995...and OcUK are at 1,008,406...

So, we are now UK #1 team on ODLK !!

Well done to all taking part in this mini-crunch :-)

Hi Mark

In fact, UBT enters EVERY BOINCstats competition/challenge...

https://boincstats.com/en/stats/challenge/team/overview

So, ultimately, it's down to everyone to keep an eye on which project needs some help so we can either restore our previous position OR to overtake another team, if we had a bit of a "push" - whether this is on FB, or BOINCstats or wherever.

Of course it's a tricky one to keep track of all the different aspects of all the many competitions between BOINC teams...but if we all take a look at the various stats websites, then I'm sure that on the "in between" weeks between the various FB Sprints, then it gives us a bit of a chance to have a mini-crunch at various times.

It's just a question of what takes our fancy. ;-)

Since Formula Boinc seems to have a problem updating their numbers:

Code: Select all

Pos.	Team Points	Credits	Daily RAC
 7	Russia Team	6	1,506,539 2,556
 8	BOINC.Italy	4	1,289,842	104,208

10	UK BOINC Team	1	1,052,505 85,649
11	BOINC@Poland	- 933,151 883
Italy not letting up, UBT not quite matching them but far out crunching Germany, this time tomorrow ... :)

I think you might be overstating my contribution. All I did was mention that we'd lost our point in ODLK. I suppose I was hoping it might galvanise a little help but the actual response was quite staggering.

It is unfortunate that FB only updates once per day as does Free-DC which I tend to use. However, FDC does now report that the Italians have dropped down significantly to about 60K over the last day cf their normal 120K. To be honest, I doubt whether they have even noticed their effect in FB and have been entirely focused on the Boincstats challenge (which I was not even aware of until Tim mentioned it). Still, it galvanised us so it can't be all bad.

Hi all

FB website has updated its ODLK stats and they currently stand as follows:

Code: Select all

Pos.	Team Points	2018 credits	Total credits	2017 total credits
1	SETI.USA 25	16,751,694	22,962,588	6,210,893
2	L'Alliance Francophone	18	11,649,855	15,940,847	4,290,992
3	Boinc@Taiwan 15	4,796,243	5,140,281	344,038
4	Czech National Team	12	4,215,405	4,832,534	617,128
5	Gridcoin 10	3,942,523	4,632,539	690,016
6	TeAm AnandTech 8	2,249,865	2,350,029	100,164
7	Russia Team 6	1,506,177	2,867,843	1,361,665
8	BOINC.Italy 4	1,286,598	1,286,598	0
9	SETI.Germany 2	1,094,631	17,069,933	15,975,302

10	UK BOINC Team 1	1,039,063	1,095,485	56,422

11	BOINC@Poland -	932,999 3,903,889	2,970,889
According to the above, we are just about 55,000 credits shy of overtaking S.Germany.

However, going to the ODLK website itself, this shows that UBT has 1,136,817 credits (in total), less our start position of 56,422, so we should now have 1,080,395 for THIS year and so we are very close to overtaking S.Germany (and they are only averaging about 700 credits per DAY).

Hopefully, we can gain another point and relegate S.G accordingly ;-)

PS: We are extending our lead as UK #1 on ODLK - the two other UK teams are not staging a fightback...yet !!

Hi all

Current ODLK project website shows we have now amassed 1,165,518 credits (in total).

Deducting our end of 2017 total of 56,422 means we have earned 1,109,096 credits this year, which should now put us ahead of SETI.Germany on the FB Marathon for ODLK.

That gives us a net gain of 1 FB credit (and of course we had already gained back the point we lost when BOINC.Italy overtook us).

FB website will no doubt confirm this when their daily credits update takes place. ;-)

Hi Mark

So it looks like Italy were keen to do well in the BS Challenge !!

Personally I'd have thought they would have gone on to maybe get at least in the Top 5...but OTOH, by easing off now, gives us a chance for a couple of days (and before the next Sprint) to extend our lead by a wee bit...

Russia are 200,000 ahead, so that's a possible scalp we could take !!

Hi Chris

Well out of the "runners and riders" for the next Sprint the following could be discounted:

Already been chosen in 2018:
#4) Amicable Numbers
#8) Asteroids@home (supports CPU/GPU)
#6) Enigma@home
#5) Moo! Wrapper (supports CPU/GPU)
#10) NFS@home
#7) ODLK1
#9) Rosetta@home
#1) Seti@home (supports CPU/GPU)
#2) VGTU@home
#3) World Community Grid

Possibles - but unlikely:
BURP - unlikely - not enough tasks available
DENIS@Home - unlikely - not enough tasks available
DrugDiscovery@home - unlikely - not enough tasks available
The dDM-Project - CLOSED DOWN
theSkyNet POGS - the PS1 Optical Galaxy Survey - CLOSED DOWN
Wanless Mersenne +2 - unlikely - Linux only
XANSONS for COD - unlikely - not enough tasks available

leaving the following:
Acoustics@home
Citizen Science Grid
Collatz Conjecture (supports CPU/GPU)
Cosmology@home
Einstein@home (supports CPU/GPU)
GPUGrid (supports CPU/GPU)
LHC@home 1.0 (supports CPU/GPU)
Milkyway@home (supports CPU/GPU)
NumberFields@home
ODLK
PrimeGrid (supports CPU/GPU)
RakeSearch
SRBase
TN-Grid
Universe@Home
Yafu
Yoyo@home

Only 3 out of the 10 chosen thus far have been CPU/GPU projects, so 7 have been CPU only...so I think another GPU project could be chosen...though if you check other posts Mark found some info that the project is chosen randomly...

I'm carrying on with ODLK (until the appointed time) just to build up a buffer with other ODLK teams.

If ODLK ISN'T chosen, be prepared to "abort" a lot of the tasks so you can fill your cache with the chosen projects tasks. :-)

Hi Chris

Well out of the "runners and riders" for the next Sprint the following could be discounted:

Already been chosen in 2018:
#4) Amicable Numbers
#8) Asteroids@home (supports CPU/GPU)
#6) Enigma@home
#5) Moo! Wrapper (supports CPU/GPU)
#10) NFS@home
#7) ODLK1
#9) Rosetta@home
#1) Seti@home (supports CPU/GPU)
#2) VGTU@home
#3) World Community Grid

Possibles - but unlikely:
BURP - unlikely - not enough tasks available
DENIS@Home - unlikely - not enough tasks available
DrugDiscovery@home - unlikely - not enough tasks available
The dDM-Project - CLOSED DOWN
theSkyNet POGS - the PS1 Optical Galaxy Survey - CLOSED DOWN
Wanless Mersenne +2 - unlikely - Linux only
XANSONS for COD - unlikely - not enough tasks available

leaving the following:
Acoustics@home
Citizen Science Grid
Collatz Conjecture (supports CPU/GPU)
Cosmology@home
Einstein@home (supports CPU/GPU)
GPUGrid (supports CPU/GPU)
LHC@home 1.0 (supports CPU/GPU)
Milkyway@home (supports CPU/GPU)
NumberFields@home
ODLK
PrimeGrid (supports CPU/GPU)
RakeSearch
SRBase
TN-Grid
Universe@Home
Yafu
Yoyo@home

Only 3 out of the 10 chosen thus far have been CPU/GPU projects, so 7 have been CPU only...so I think another GPU project could be chosen...though if you check other posts Mark found some info that the project is chosen randomly...

I'm carrying on with ODLK (until the appointed time) just to build up a buffer with other ODLK teams.

If ODLK ISN'T chosen, be prepared to "abort" a lot of the tasks so you can fill your cache with the chosen projects tasks. :-)

regards
Tim
hopefully Primegrid. Been slogging away at that one for a while. That 1080ti goes through PPS (sieve) like a hot knife through butter. 3 minutes for 3371 credit. 1060GTX not that far behind either.

Primegrid would be nice, a decent server, well established apps and always plenty of work.

8hr35min for Genefer 21 credit 147K on a 1080ti. centuries for wingman to verify

6mins 35sec for PPS(sieve) credit 3371 yet it takes just over 8 hours via CPU. is this still the best app for maximizing the credit? both duncan and meddy2065 seem to think so. duncan has caught me again

would they still use 2 stage if it was picked for the sprint? just have to wait and see.

I forgot they use wingmen :(

I haven't ran PrimeGrid for ages, it would be useful to have a set of times and credits for each application just in case they do pick it.

And yes, if it's picked then two stage verification will still be a part of it. The project owners don't get told they've been picked so they have no time to change the normal operation of the project.

I wouldn't say that, as PG has lots of different tasks, some of which don't take long at all - you just have to be selective in which tasks you choose to allow BOINC Manager to process. (See your PrimeGrid account and take a look in the "PrimeGrid preferences" section.

So, if shorter tasks are completed, there's a far better chance that these completed tasks *will* be validated by the wingman, within the Sprint period.

We just passed Russia and gained another two points. We're a long way off TAAT for the next point though. I think I might do the same as last week now and turn off network access until Wednesday's announcement.

You beat me to it :D

Yep, looks like TAAT are a few weeks away at least so no further progress in the near future.

Good idea with the bunkering again.

Just a quick update on ODLK...

We've created a comfortable buffer between ourselves and Russia, and closed the gap a little on TAAT. However, overclock.net are on a bit of a charge. They are currently 470k behind us and closing fast but it is a one-man charge and that man is currently on 830k so there is the chance he is just doing this to get to 1 million. If that is the case he might close down long before he bothers us. If not then he'll be past us in a fortnight.

Hi Chris

I've taken my foot off the pedal on ODLK for a bit and I'm putting my CPU efforts into Acoustics@home for a wee while.

But I'll happily switch back to ODLK, if we need to.

Hi Chris,

I was chasing L'Alliance in NFS but that's a few weeks off yet so just shout if you want a hand :)

As I said before I don't think there's any need to panic yet. I thought I might take a couple of days off and try the prime grid eclipse challenge and then I'll be straight back.

As I suspected, the chappie from Overclock got his 1M and then went right off the boil. We're closing very slowly on TAAT who haven't scored a single point in over three weeks so I shall whittle away at the deficit for the foreseeable with the exception of any non-GPU sprints that I can help out on.

Hi Chris

Good news :-)

I'm running a couple of different CPU tasks at present: mainly odlk and VGTU so I can hit my own "1 million" credit targets and waiting for the resumption of the FB Sprints (in less than a week now)...at which point I'll switch depending on which projects are chosen.
